Only consolation is that it didn’t happen during rush hour, or a lot more injuries/fatalities would’ve occurred. Still a tragic accident

Unfortunate accident. On the bright side, no more maintenance required, just build a new one. .

They are probably already lining up several heavy lift barge cranes to come in and remove the central span to get the channel open. Depending on how far they have to come, it may take a few weeks. There are 15 ships in the harbor that can't leave and four cruise ships that left Baltimore and can't get back to the piers. Lots of lost money. The owners of the ship will invoke "force majeure" to avoid having to pay damages.

They can try but I don’t think it’ll hold water when investigators look at the ship’s inspection and maintenance records!
Grace Ocean might have to start cutting checks to Uncle Sam!

    It is.

This is a major problem. Not only is a major commuter and part of an Interstate highway shut down, but now the entire port of Baltimore is out of commission until it gets cleaned up at the very least.

It is. Cargo ships went through there every day.

Had the ship stayed in the middle of the channel which would’ve put it under the highest part, this wouldn’t have happened.

Remember the one that got stuck in the Suez canal?

IIRC that ship was registered in Peru, the crew was from India, the line they were hauling for was based in Taiwan, and the incident happened in Egypt. Try sorting through all that crap if you’re a lawyer.

This one also has the Maryland Pilots involved. I’m pretty sure they’ll be the first ones questioned as to what the hell happened here.
