Burn that 5/8 to 3/8 and keep it that way for the duration of the trip or at last the last scale on your way. Than don’t worry aboth the scales. No, no fueling for over limit on drives. You have to understand, they sit in those weigh stations specifically to catch trucks that run heavy - it’s their job, don’t expect any sympathy. Don’t be stupid.

The answer really is not simple, if you want an accurate number.

Here is a list of how states deal with APU weight allowances as of a bit over a year ago. Vehicle weight exemptions for APUs, Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association

My truck puts about 20% of fuel weight on steers, and 80% on drives. Fixed position 5th wheel.

Calculate your potential weight with diesel at 8 lb per gallon.

The next time you get a light load, and are low on fuel, scale the truck before and after filling your tanks. Figure out the ratio of how the weight is balanced.

Actually some states are 400 pounds, others are 550 pounds and still some other states don't allow any APU variance above 34,000.

If I'm unsure.. I reroute around em. The added 15 minutes or so equals less stress and usually a more scenic view.

Question...I see a lot of talk about non-moveable fifth wheels. Why would anybody in their right mind not have a fifth wheel that's adjustable.?
What's the advantage to a fixed fifth wheel?

Crete does not buy moveable 5th wheels for all of their trucks. I do not know the %.

My truck was one. I moved the 5th wheel forward 1 notch recently, but have been a bit heavier than I like with some loads recently, so an adjustable 5th wherl is likely in my future if it isn't stupidly expensive.

My KW puts almost all fuel weight on the steers.
I didn't see where he listed the weight on his trailer. that would help us in figuring things.
