It doesn't actually say what they mean by "earnings"...taxable income or total gross income. My total gross income over there at Poly in 2015 (mileage only, not counting the drop pay) was just over $54k. My taxable income after their per diem calculation (mileage only, not counting drop pay) was $39k. If the employee spends a lengthy time employed there, that is a sizeable reduction in 'earnings' to base a Social Security benefit on.
Not to mention if the employee gets hurt or diagnosed with a disabling condition. Any workers comp or disability benefits are paid on taxable (adjusted)gross income, not (unadjusted) gross income.
Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

Per dorm isn't taxable -
Not like I have to worry about it, by the time I am eligible for retirement, there won't be any Social Security the way it's going...as if I will ever retire, that is. -
silverspur Thanks this.

I had a little birdie tell me that Poly is really close to getting either Freightliner or Peterbilt trucks in here. Anything but these Internationals.

Also heard 0.02/mile pay raise and getting our drop/pickup pay one drop earlier starting middle of February. That will help a little with the impending adoption of the #### electronic logs but not nearly enough to offset the $$$$ loss due to them. Also 100 breakdown pay/day and layover pay.
28 Thanks this. -

Don't over look what management
has recently done with the load schedule times
in light of the E-logs coming on line here shortly.
They are now adding an extra 24 hours to all load times.
For example on a simple load to Hattiesburg a
few weeks back ( GP to Hattiesburg is 521 miles )
Loaded on Saturday morning ...delivered on Tuesday
morning (In the past that would have been Loaded on Sunday
delivered first thing Tuesday)
The extra one day at zero miles is a substantial hit to progress.
Average cost to the driver based on daily mileage
potentials is anywhere from $200.00 on a 400 mile day
to $300.00 on a 600 mile day.Last edited: Jan 29, 2017

If they really want to turn heads , drop the Per Diem , add .10 CPM , prepass+ and detention. If they get new trucks breakdowns shouldn't be an issue for a few yrs. But at the same time I'm told that they're no longer gonna pay for more than 2 days in a room during breakdown , either you hot seat back , rent a car back , or pay the additional days at your own expense. -
New trucks won't solve the breakdown problem at Poly. It'll simply bandaid it temporarily.
Why is it that other companies (Crete, Knight, Roehl, McElroy, etc...) run Internationals with no problems?
That's a rhetorical question. The answer is simple. They don't have a clueless repair shop run by 3 stooges that wouldn't know a hammer from screwdriver.silverspur and 28 Thank this.
