I don't know how someone only makes 800 bucks
    A week here. It's impossible,unless you're broke
Down 4 days a week and won't take a loaner.

I take loaners,it's the only way I can survive
    Working here.
Been on e-logs for months, haven't stopped moving
    In months.
I live in Texas and haven't been home more than 1
Day in the past couple months before outbound is
Calling me and saying there short on drivers.

    Sometimes i bite,sometimes I don't.
I also go everywhere, I'm not gonna sit at that
Yard for a day or two or three, because I only go
To Florida or the west coast.

I'm grabbing something and getting out of there.
    It all pays the same.

I guess it takes all kinds to make up this place
Guy yesterday got called by Pat and told to pickup
his miles ...he claimed he was running at 1400 or so a week
and the company likes to see more.

Im in the process of getting my personal vehicle to GP
and driving home when the shop has my truck for maintenance.
Kill two birds with one stone sort of idea.

Talked to two drivers yesterday while we were waiting on our loads
they say the best decision they ever made was to bring their own ride to GP
One of the lived 1200 miles away and the other around 800 .

I agree , I have rethought my position on loaners ( after 6 back to back breakdowns
I lost faith in them ) and will still be using them . Its a risk but what else can a driver do.
    Loaners are leaky life preservers

They fly us back and forth between breakdowns and pay travel time so it
takes the sting out of the situation

Poly is a place you come to die as a truck driver ,
I talked to a man yesterday thats been there 8 yrs and still can't
process what he sees...another guy 13 years, same thing

The company I drive for gives you an option of flat pay or mileage pay. If you choose flat pay, they still track your miles and if you would've made more on mileage, they pay the difference (I think it's quarterly). It's really a no lose proposition. I chose mileage because I did the flat pay for a month and they owed me over $800, and I'd rather have my $800 when I make it instead of waiting for the end of the quarter to get the extra cash.

The flat pay is nice for guys that need a steady paycheck every week. As you know, you may have a down week here and there on mileage. Some guys can't deal with that so the flat pay is good for them, and they still get the same as me if they drive the same miles, just have to wait until the end of the quarter for the company to settle up. Also, you can switch to either any time, but once you switch you can't switch back for 90 days (that's fair).

Anyway, I mention this because we get new drivers periodically that opt for the flat pay and then sit on their butts half the month and don't want to drive and then get mad when the company switches them to mileage. But, the company isn't going to continually pay you more than what you'd make on mileage. The flat pay isn't intended to be "I don't have to work to get a paycheck" pay. It's intended to help out drivers that need a consistent paycheck every week.

I've never understood the "I've got enough money for beer and smokes now, I'm good" logic.

Who do you drive for ?

Poly is ok with me ...., like many just can't get my head around the place .

Square Peg / Round Hole sort of thing

If they simply got people in there to run it like a trucking company they
    wouldn't even need outside carriers

May Trucking. And, my comment didn't really have anything to do with Poly, more about the Poly drivers that like to sit on their butts waiting on a Florida load instead of taking something else. I understand the trucks over there break all the time, but if they have a truck, why would they care where a load is going?

They don't want to go to Chicago,
They don't want to go to the northeast,
They don't want to drive in mountains,
    Etc,etc.

I've left Grand Prairie, went to Minneapolis
And back to Grand Prairie and the same guys
Were still waiting on that west palm beach or
Transfer load to the west coast.
In the meantime I put a 1000 bucks in
    My pocket.

    But that's their choice.
I'm glad we got a bunch of picky
Drivers here, makes it easy for me.

    I'm hearing from several veteran
drivers there that Mike Hyatt " hates
    truck drivers " ...... what's your take
    on this ?

It's puzzles me since he is now running
    the show

I've had to talk to him maybe 2 or 3 times since I've been with poly and I have no issues with him. I will probably talk to him less now that he took Allens position, because I haven't talked to Allen once that I can remember lol.

Can you blame him, who knows how many times
He's been told he sucks at his job by the drivers
    In the past couple years.
And he earned every bit of it.

Hopefully,if we're lucky he'll continue to do what
He did while running the shop, which was nothing.
Collect his paycheck, hop in his corvette and leave
    Us alone.

Truth be told I don't know what any of them do.
Nothing ever changes and its the same people in
The office when I started 2 years ago.
There not giving up those gravy jobs.

I talked to pat twice in a year, haven't talked to Martin
In a year and a half. I love it.
I'm completely on my own here, it's great.
Time to go home ,I just hop in my car and go home.
    Don't tell anybody anything.
Call outbound a week or two later and get back on
The board. Never hear a peep from anybody.

I heard that Hyatt was the master at writing drivers up. He loved to "point out" drivers with safety points...maybe that's why he was in the shop office instead of the operations office, cost them too much to replace drivers.
