Ran it to a 'no parking' WalMart, then hid out behind the store. Praying I didn't get the boot. When 2 other trucks took up occupancy in the parking lot, I said 'F it' and got some Z's.

Couldn't agree more. I hate dipping under an hour on that ####ing clock. I get way more tense than I should ever be with 40-45k lbs of product on my ###. Completely crazy, man.

I would run the clock down if I start my day early so I know I can find parking. If for some reason I cant, I'll circle the parking lot like a vulture.

OP no offense but how long have you been driving that you're just now realizing shippers/receivers don't give one crap about your HOS?

They do it all the time, it's always this Home Depot that has F'up people in receiving. I'm not the first driver that complains. It got to the point that I just go back inside ask for my bills and take all the stuff back. I was about to do it again last night but the fool finally agreed to unload me. They just get pissed off cuz it's usually only one guy in receiving and they get no help. I told him that's not the drivers problem but they just don't care.

Anyway, I ended up doing almost 16 hours of service last night. Wish we got paid double OT after 8

Company ain't gonna care, ever. Driver gets nailed with a hot logbook, driver pays, end of story. Carrier has plenty of ways to avoid HOS violation fines, throwing the driver under the bus.

    Well try this..
    1. Tell home dipo that u cant legally move the truck. Call a dot officer out there if he has a prob.
    2. Edit your logs to off duty and stay until u reach 8 hrs, then u will b n split log mode. U will gain some of your 14 back.
    3. Put looking for safe haven n your remarks on your logs. Problem tho if your advancing the load u can b in trouble plus he can get u on poor planning. I use that against my dm all the time.

Well, it is. But it's a whole lot easier to cheat on paper.

Home Depot's usually have large parking lots. When you get unloaded ease on over to a corner and park it til you have legal hours to drive again. Anyone gives you any trouble, call the cops. Worst they can do is have you towed to a legal park spot and your company will have to pay for that.

8 hours off duty gets you nothing. Split is 8 hours sleeper 2 hours off.
