I have a really dumb question. I'm almost too embarrassed to ask but here goes. When "they" told you it was expired why didn't you ask "them" what you need to do to get your CDL reinstated? I apologize for asking such a stupid question.
West Sacramento has a commercial only office. I've never been in there longer than 30 minutes to an hour. The don't handle anything that isn't CDL related. In and out. Plus if you want entertainment you can watch the noobs doing skills tests.
I don't think SoCal has a Commercial Only Office, I use the Arleta Office, no commercial line, just a free for all. They have you do the pre-trip and brake tests parked next to the curb on the street with traffic passing by, and the skills test is done somewhere else as the parking lot is so small there is no place to park a truck. I will probably move before I see the day when there is a Commercial Line there. If you need a behind the wheel skills test, you sign up for an appointment at least 6-8 weeks out.
Keeping a Valid medical on the CDL at all times to run Tier one (Self declaring on a affadvait that you do indeed have a valid medical form to go with your CDL...) has been something of a new process. In the past you got to hold your CDL or Class A provided you were not driving (Unemployed) without a employer issued medical card. Now these days you stand to lose it. If it is not grandfathered and declared in a form by yourself under Tier two. So that you can keep it. Truckers are some of the healthiest people medically compared to any percentage of people who run in a car license or none. They should not be beaten over the head with a medical constantly. It's too much oversight if you ask me. Eventually if they tighten standards even further, no human will drive a big truck, just Otto the Computer.
Lol this how it was even at our CDL office. Nothing like waiting in a info line for an hour to just to be told ok here's your number to wait in the other line. Fortunately for us they have stopped all non cmv transactions at that office, in an out about an hour now unless your testing.
I am puzzled how this even became a thread. If I ever have any sort of "situation" with an "entity" over paper work, I take required paperwork in hand, and ASAP, go directly to the nearest office of that entity and present it in person. Problem solved. Keep this is mind as a life lesson and handle the rest of your life in this manner: do not rely on others to handle your responsibilities.
There is one in fontana. Been there a few times. Do not remember the address. But its off valley street just west of cedar i think. It used to be in. San Bernardino before moving here.
If you file your new physical form with your local Department of Motor Vehicles then you should be fine. A friend of mine just went through something very similar to yours he got pulled over by a State Trooper and they almost arrested him because of the exact same reason you're talking about. They ended up writing him a ticket and towing the truck. He went to the DMV the next day after taking his new physical handed over to the DMV boom he was all set.
