Managers disrespect drivers and get away with it.
TEAMS BEWARE They do not have team freight at Halvor Lines. They have solo freight that they hold until its almost late & then give to a team & call it team freight. They give teams loads with multiple drops [otherwise known as LTL freight] - but pay like 10 bucks a stop [not counting the 1st stop] - They either don't understand they're ripping you off... or they don't care. Either way, if you're a team... you know this is ridiculous. Halvor doesn't. They don't understand how teams are supposed to run & they lack the humility to make changes. Examples. They have [at best] 50% drop & hook. Usually less. Sometimes their "preloaded" trailers aren't even ready so those turn into "live loads" too. They do not prioritize teams over solos for freight. They don't even understand why a company would prioritize teams. They think a team is a tool for the company to utilize if a solo won't make it in time... they'll have a team meet the solo, swap trailers with the solo, take it the rest of the way... & then sit on it all night. [To be fair] They will give you long mile loads... but they broker every load back to Wi-Mn area... & you will sit for hours on docks...sometimes days waiting on brokered live loads. You only get paid detention if you are on time to the appointment...- which makes sense when you hear it. - but they don't tell you if you're on time to your live unload & the consignee holds you until you're late to your next appointment... that's "your problem" They don't know what a rolling reset is. They utilize the Netradyne camera driver scoring system... which has improved. But is still terrible. Do your own research on that if you'd like. Add to that their trucks are governed at 65, but all equipped with retreads, so they max out at 64 = a lot of frustration just trying to go down the road. *The ppl who score high on Netradyne...[over 1000] are achieving this by waiting for a car to cut them off....& then abruptly braking to "create safe distance" -if there is anyone behind you this is actually irresponsible & dangerous. It's effectively "brake checking innocent ppl" in a commercial vehicle. But that's undoubtedly how they'll refute my remarks on that. Lastly, they worship their "best fleet to drive for" endorsement. You will get spammed with constant requests to review them... & if you don't give them a perfect score, you become public enemy number 1. They will smile & give you no freight till you quit. [Or ridiculously bad freight.... freight a solo would consider new employment over. ] We were patient & went thru 3 different managers... which is to give the appearance of "trying to work with you" - but all the managers work out of the same office, are friends, & none of them understand teams... so they all reinforce each other in their incompetence. If you think this was just a personal thing.. Ask your recruiter questions. Ask specifics.Need4Speed Thanks this. -
Be extremely careful when applying with these guys. I applied way back in August. They run a background check as well as soft credit check which is fine when you apply.. However almost 7 months later without my permission and knowledge they took it upon themselves to do it again even when I had no interest in working for them. When my credit was ran again and I had no idea till I got the credit monitoring report on what they did. I called and spoke to several in the HR department they passed the blame on to everyone in the whole department. It's against Federal and State laws on what they did but Halvor lines thinks they are above the law.. Im seriously thinking about seeking legal action against this company. It's NO telling how many times they have done this to everyone that applies with them. If you don't catch it this company can ruin your credit in NO time flat by running periodic credit and background checks. I'd steer very clear of this company and if you do apply keep a constant eye on your credit for at least a year or two after applying. But according to them they didn't do this???
Bottom line company has access to Social Security # and personal info- they may check if credit is good then get some kind of credit. Why would they run a report seven months later?Need4Speed, Bean Jr. and Lonesome Thank this. -
Also forgot to mention they have a lease purchase scam they try very hard to push on drivers. They entice unsuspecting drivers with a new Peterbuilt but they control the loads and if the driver can make the payment or not. It's a no win situation for the driver.
Then you need to go over every paycheck because payroll will not pay you detention or reimbursements unless you fight for it. A driver has to basically call up and fight to get paid. Then they don't like to pay empty moves. Drivers have to fight for that pay too. As if a driver is going to shuttle their trailers around for free.
All in all a dishonest company. Not the worst , not a nightmare like let's say Western express but they are a training company and prey on new drivers.Need4Speed Thanks this. -
I was also constantly cheated out of layover and detention.
They were already headed to hell in a hand basket 20 years ago... unfortunately your and my true story will keep getting ignored. No good driver will ever work for them. Unfortunately there are plenty of fat, smelly, slobby flip flop wearers who think $60000 a year is good money. -
This company can't find or keep drivers. Their into saving money but have taken out billboards in Minnesota trying to find drivers.
Little do they realise that drivers leave because of driver abuse and mistreatment by dispatch. Yeah they can fill the gaps with little experienced trainees and rookie drivers but that's all this company will ever be a training company. Amazing anyone will trust freight on their filthy trailers.
And now they like to short drivers pay. Every week their is an issue about miles reimbursements etc. Nothing but lies.
If you see one of their slow 64mph trucks get in the left lane and be aware it's most likely a rookie behind the wheel. Be extra careful passing and watch your mirrors.
Also they pay zip to zip not real miles. That's basically stealing. Their favorite tactic is to send you into a city with 3 stops. You get paid 25 bucks or so for the two stops but you will drive all day in dense city traffic let's say Baltimore delivering their LTL freight and make $60. Then your reload will be from the same place so you do 3 deliveries one reload and get paid $60. No mile pay coz it's 1 zip.
Keep in mind you will be getting messages and calls about what's taking so long etc all day. Get to stop #2 and there's 10 trucks in front you the driver get blamed. Late to your next delivery? You are blamed. City traffic back ups? You are blamed.
Then good luck finding parking coz you'll be out of hours at the end of all this. Go over your hours and you get written up by safety. Get pulled into a scale for violation they caused and you will be blamed. No wonder it's a revolving door.Last edited: Jan 28, 2022
Need4Speed and Lonesome Thank this. -
This is a camera company. They lie when they say it isn't on or only comes on during hard braking etc.
They are always watching. New drivers here don't know that.
They are fed lies from day 1 orientation. The company is built on lies and subsist on lies. AVOID!!Lonesome Thanks this. -
This company hires a lot of owner operators. Why? Stealing...
You see their trailers on the road, 50% of the time it's an O/O pulling the trailer.
How they steal? Fake rate con. O/O get % of load but that's easy to doctor. Ends up being more like 65% or 70% because the O/O never sees the real rate. If they see something it's fake- easy to change anyway. They make more money off of stupid O/O's than company drivers. Company drivers get stolen from too as mentioned before by skimming miles.
Another way they steal from O/O's is maintenance. Anytime you go in their shop expect a $4000 to $5000 bill. Met a driver in their Superior terminal who went in for a minor repair, ended up having a list of major repairs done cost almost $5000. They put the owner in a hard place and say well if you don't do these repairs you can't run.
Most if not all O/O's pulling for Halvor are broke living in their trucks. No money can barely buy food. Met one lady she's on a dedicated route to Texas doing almost 3000 miles a week and she said she barely gets by. Lives in her truck paycheck to paycheck.
Owner Operators won't be making any money at Halvor Lines. Same as company drivers. Not a good place. -
Yes they do force to drive illegal. Not force as in you have to but they will pressure with very tight delivery times.
In the past few months several drivers have been caught driving past 11 hours or 14 hours. Anyone can check SAFER site.Last edited: Feb 8, 2022
