Just a general question. What is the law in this example. Say you are hauling fuel(hazmat) and you are overweight. You pull on scale and you see you are 1100.00 pounds over. Now the question is can the cop hold you their till the fine is paid in full immmediately. Driver couldn't leave until fine was paid in full. Whatever happened to day in court to make a deal. Or beg for forgiveness. Corporate ran out with funds to pay over weight ticket. Truck left overweight, state got their money, local town got their money. Truck delivered 1 mile away.

    Depends on the state

Florida used to get the money before you were allowed to leave .

Georgia just wrote you an invoice for a penny per pound and you mailed it in

Some states, like TN, issue the ticket and you are free to leave the weigh station and pay the fines before the due date.. Other states, IL IIRC, you can't leave the weigh station until you are at a legal weight.
