Load from ca to pa takes probably 3 days for one person to deliver unless he is on paper logs , whos in clear mind would work for 210-250 this period , i can make 300$ daily on construction with 10x less responsibility locally , sleep in my own bed every night ...yr pay translates to $70 per day ...my meal otr cost me min $20-30 per day , for both of you maybe more ... It would be like humiliation for me :(

Well it’s hard to believe that a team would sit in a truck not makin any money. Now if they are getting paid to sit or drive that’s different but the op said they weren’t making any money so I think that means they aren’t getting paid to sit. If you like to sit for free then that’s fine but I don’t. If I’m gonna sit for free then it will be at home. You also didn’t say your teams were working for peanuts or you paid them good. Maybe include all the details and it won’t seem so hard to believe.

I dont believe much of anything he speaks on when referring to "His Trucks"... I know I cant be the only one seeing through his BS. He owns all these trucks in every segment of the industry and buys up all these companies but yet sits on here and posts all day long...

You must never have worked much in office or manage a company. You can do a lot stuff with over phone calls including call lawyers, accountants, secretary. A big company has CEO doing pretty much what he wants with a few key meetings that's when they not playing golf. A lot of stuff can be faxed nowadays instead of driving everywhere or waiting for the mail. best part you have a team of people you call do the hard work and sometimes you have sign stuff sometimes giving authority to do it for you.

You mean to tell us that you started at 0.15 per person per mile?

Now you are up to 0.44 a mile and still each of you at 0.24?

That enrages me. A husband wife team set is one of the most valued assets in trucking. That #### truck should be earning 1.00 or more with you two in it. You are in the WRONG outfit. GTFO.

As far as the Homestead Dream. It will be done eventually. But DO NOT sign a employment acceptance letter at those low wages. No wonder you have nothing to show for the two of you.

I would rant and call your company a shyster. They took advantage of you.

First get to a good company, then save up and get ur own truck. No kids and no bills besides phone, heck even leasing it on to a company and pulling their trailers will increase your income dramatically. Especially teaming, sheesh. I bet u guys could take home $5k a week with ease.

I know a ceo and he didn’t and still doesn’t (semi retired now) do that. He was in the office and on top of what was going on everyday. I’m not saying anyone’s lying or not. I wouldn’t live in a truck for peanuts that for sure.

@Jay23 - First, I am so sorry that CRST has taken such advantage of you. I'm happy for you that, very soon, you can tell them to shove it and get out of there.

In fact, I'd start shopping for a new home right now.

My wife and I run team also and I can tell you, as others have, that husband/wife teams are the first-round draft picks of the trucking world. If you have good driving records, you will be offered a job at every carrier you apply to.

    That being said...

Teams have a special challenge in finding a good fit.

Believe it or not, even though most drivers will tell you that if you're making less than such-and-such cents per mile, you're being robbed. And certainly, in some cases like your current one, that's true.

What teams also have to factor in is the available miles. average miles per trip, and total miles per week.

It's an additional challenge because, as you know, if you can only log 4000 miles a week, it's hard to make a 2 person living.

You can starve to death making $10 a mile... if you're only getting 10 miles a week. See?

Many carriers are set up to logistically work with solo drivers and so you want to make sure you go with a carrier with a team division. They will have cultivated a good volume of expedited freight, coast-to-coast lanes, and drop-and-hook versus live loads. You want to move CONSTANTLY.

Your total miles is just as important as your cpm. Maybe more important.

My wife and I are owner/op now but when she first got her CDL, we went with Werner. They paid us (if I recall correctly) 45cpm and we regularly got over 6000 miles a week, occasionally 7000+.

Plus, they allowed us to buy our own truck after 6mo. And they actually gave us a good price and a decent interest rate.

    ($79,000 for a 2 year old T-680 with 80,000 miles financed for 3years at 7% APR)

The best part is (and I'll say that I don't know if they still do this) is that the financing was not contingent on our staying with Werner!

We only stayed about 30 days after buying the truck. Thanks Werner!

Again, things change and so I'd make sure our deal is still available but, if it is, I can highly reccomend Werner as a place where a husband/wife team can thrive, make a good living ($1500/wk each) and progress into the owner/op world where the real money is.

    Good luck, you two!

    Jay23 and Rideandrepair Thank this.
