Goes back to the old saying that you show people how they can treat you.

100% correct. It's inhumane and outrageous.
I would bobtail that day cab all over town getting 2 hour showers, and 2 hour dinners and emailing the state DOT and ask them about "how do I log sleeping in a day cab like ABC Trucking is asking me to do??"

if you are taking your 10 in a day cab, that's illegal.

you can't show sleeper without a sleeper.

I've been dinged for it years ago.

Is your gig temporary? How did you wind up being the one to cover that need for the company?

    Chi Town Steers Thanks this.

10 hours off duty is acceptable. No longer have to show a motel receipt. That’s why you see guys sleeping in their hotshot pickups and in the cabs of box trucks.

yep! Can’t log sleeper, and can’t rest so cannot get a 10 without motel room, wait til you get inspected and they wanna see your motel receipt. You’ll be put out of service as well as a log violation ticket.

I'm going to guess the OP got his living in a daycab gig when a driver that previously did it quit or a driver that lived locally to the location and went home daily left for another job.

I hope the OP remembers that while it's dirty AF for his company to expect some driver to live this way, it is legal SO LONG AS HE GETS ENOUGH REST. So maybe the question to ask the company is what do they want him to do when he wakes up from sleeping on the floor for the 2nd-20th night in a row and he sees that he's too fatigued to work safely? It's illegal for him to drive when fatigued, use that word and not a substitute, and it's illegal for his employer to punish him for refusing to drive while fatigued. All of the communication needs to be done by something with a record like a text, QUALCOMM ( or alternative), email etc. DO NOT have that conversation verbally where there is no record of who said what.

I wonder if there is a weigh station between A and B? A "casual" conversation with an officer in the weigh station about "how to log while sleeping in a daycab?" or "is it true that if my sleeping in a daycab every night makes me fatigued I can't drive and my employer cannot punish me?" Obviously missing a day of work takes money out of your pocket. If the situation with the employer has already escalated to open anger, I'd just have my next job lined up before I gave notice, and anticipate they stop employing you the day you give notice. It's a no-win situation.
