48x40 GMA pallet 24 straight in all sideways 28 but it’s tight can’t have any overhang on the pallet and have to be laid in perfectly square. 6 chimney blocks and 2 straight in for 26 total with room for load locks. When you do the 28 sideways there is usually not enough room for a load lock. This is from my experience with a 50x102 Dorsey with a carrier unit that I ran for about 4 years then I had an awakening and quit reefer for good.

416 on a 45 foot step deck. Load was just 12'9" so could have gotten closer to 450 or more.

If you’re new to reefer or buying your first, don’t do less than 53’ unless you know someone and pull out of the same place all the time. I looked at 50’, 51’, and 51.5’ when I set out to buy on and I’m lucky I didn’t as I can pick up reefer and dry freight that calls for that much and needs it. You don’t want to get stuck out without a load when you need it because they won’t take your 50’ or won’t load it the way you want to make it fit. Some of these places have dock workers that use charts for pallet placement of how to load some loads and they act like they can’t vary from it because they simply don’t know anything about what they’re doing lol.

Most pallets are 40" W by48" L. So, loaded straight in would be 2 rows of 12 (24 ttl) in a 50' trailer. However if you alternate one row straight and one row turned, you get more. Trailer width is 8.5 ft. I don't feel like doing the math right now but 26/27 sounds good. But wait, if pallets are really light, double the capacity (double stacked) !

50’ or 50.5’? Believe 30 spots all at sideways on 50.5’, on a 53’ you can put the last 2 straight in
48-50’ would be 28 I think, providing your not racking and stacking, I had 37 wedged in a few weeks ago with my pallet jack on boardLast edited: Jul 10, 2022
