Why not do whatever it is your bachelors degree is for? Trucking school ain’t that expensive. Work and save up. Are you working now? There are always lots of variables but your bachelors degree should get you a job that pays better than trucking. Nothing wrong with trucking I just don’t understand why someone would go to college four years and get a degree and then not use it.

A degree only pays well in certain fields. When I got my degree I wasn’t thinking about the money, just a respectable and enjoyable profession with a good retirement plan. Things have changed, and now it’s all about the money. I didn’t want to return back to school and have to deal with work, debt, and school work all at the same time. Trucking seemed like a good place to start over. It worked for me, but I gotta say it wasn’t easy.

PE_Trans just answered your question, school just doesn’t work out at times. I currently work at an office job in LA making only $15 an hr, my background is physical therapy and I did get accepted into physical therapy school in September of 2018 but decided to drop out because of the amount of debt I would owe, 300k In student loans (graduate and undergrad Loans combined).that would take me 4 years to finish school and I would also have to study and take a state board which is an extra $1000 and if I don’t pass then I would be screwed. I heard so many horror stories of people going to medical school owing 300k plus In student loans and they end up failing! So like PE_Trans said it was about an enjoyable profession but now more about money. I live pay check to pay check now, because I have so many bills to pay, but thankfully my wife also works as well, she never went to college and makes more than an average college graduate in CA. She’s met people with masters degree at her job at mercury car insurance.

You can get a bachelor’s degree and still not make $100k within 10-15 years into your career. You CAN reach those numbers in trucking, even without a college degree. In fact, you can reach 6 figures within your first two years in trucking. Either join LTL or become an Owner/Op.

You can join the military for 4 years and then go troops2truckers or use your gi bill when you get out.

If you do the one year contract with Schinder if you can. I paid cash but I had 3 years to save because of my dui I did it tho. Barely but I did it. Best decision I ever made for sure. But one year isn’t anything I spend 3 just waiting if you can get that training for free ####ing do it! You’ll make more than some bs job anyway

I'll just throw my 2 cents out there a "New" driver as well. I think that if you have some brain power or know how to take a test, then paying for CDL school is not necessarily the best option. Get the book from your local DMV, study it, use the online resources available and go take your written test. It's not hard, I passed with all endorsements in Idaho after studying for a few evenings after work. Find a local truck rental place that will rent you a truck/trailer by the hour/half day/ or day. Get a buddy that has a Class A to ride with you and teach you whatever you need help on. I grew up on a ranch, so I started hauling trailers and driving an old cabover when I was about 15. I'm 45 now, so it took a few hours to remember things again, but after about 8 hours of driving, I felt confident in taking the test. After the 14 days was up, I made my appointment with the examiner, rented the truck again for another 1/2 day and took the driving/backing test.... Passed with no troubles. Biggest issue for me was memorizing the PTI.

    Total Costs-
    DOT Physical - $75
    Written Tests - $18
    Written Test Receipt -$10
    TSA Screening -$87
    Driving Test - $120
    Truck Rental- $600
    Fuel -$100
Case of Beer and a Flat of 12GA Shells - $75
(Payment to my buddy for riding around with me in the truck)

    Total costs - $1085

Again, just my 2 Cents, and it's probably worth just about that much.... Good luck to you
