"Bone said he did not expect another vehicle to be in front of him in his lane, and he was looking at his phone when climbing the hill," charges state. "By the time Bone noticed the Saturn, he did not have time to stop."

"I got on the phone and got on the internet, just glancing while I was driving," he told investigators, court records state. "Bone said that he typically uses his phone when driving a commercial vehicle when he believes he 'is not a danger.'"

I saw this on the news tonight here in SLC.
    Crazy, just crazy

No different than the majority of drivers I see everyday. I had a dacab almost hit me twice last night as I was passing him. He has his phone in his left hand, trying to watch something on it, while chomping on a big sandwich in his right hand. He had his dome light on and you could clearlu see the phone screen from any passing vehicle.
I won't go into how many DVD players I've seen on the dash or tablets stuck onto the steering wheel

Its unreal. This distracted driving has gotten way out of control and its only going to get worse. I use to honk at people when I noticed them texting and causing traffic issues because of it (driving super slow or weaving). Usually I would receive a friendly brake check or a middle finger as a thanks. At best they would put it down, drive super fast down the road for a quarter mile, and then go right back to distracted driving.

Now Im starting to see truck drivers texting, face timing, and watching movies on their tablet. I cannot understand how people can allow themselves to do this. Last night, I legit had to swurve around a cop car who was texting at a traffic light and didnt see it switch to green. I blew my city horn when I was behind him and just saw his fingers keep fapping away on his phone. So then I swurved around him and blew my air horn. Seconds later he flys past me with his lights blazing as if I was suppose to imagine that he had any purpose for his actions.

It is a grim looking future for a career of "professional" drivers ....

I've been saying a lot lately. Thanks to these POS mega-company CDL mills The quality of drivers in this industry is pathetic.

"He believed he wasn't a danger" and regularly used his phone all the time. So all the safety and ticket warnings on billboards, highway signs warning of fines for not putting the phone down? The huge fine and penalties the fmcsa instituted? its gotten worse. This is why we have to deal with in cab cameras, ELD's, and the ambulance chasing lawyers, and now, driverless trucks because of the entire generation brainless dimwits who came into this industry who were dumber than a pile of rocks to begin with, given just enough training to move the truck forward, and now combined with not being able to put the #### phone down. :angry5::angry5:

Actually I hate to break it to you, but I was more under the microscope for phone usage when I was at Swift than at the considerably smaller company I'm at now. I've seen everyone using their phones, from mega fleet drivers to small company drivers to owner ops. My current company would fire me after the first offense if they caught me texting and driving but they don't do much to check up on us in this area.
