    So that if you need to crank it down on the shoulder of a road one day you'll be out of traffic.

    I read an article years ago about that and it said some fleets spec it that way to force the driver to walk at least part way around the truck .

    It allows you to park two trailers very close to each other and still be able to drop them.

    I dealt with them when I did intermodal. Idk why maybe they knew it was gna breakdown on the shoulder and need to drop it there o.0

    Like others have said safety(if you're dropping near a high traffic area) and the driver has no excuse for not looking over both sides of the equipment before leaving. It's also freaky to have the 5th wheel release handle on that side too.
