hi I’ve been driving over 2 years long haul and I’m looking at possibly getting into more regional or local work in the New Jersey eastern pa area. I see lots of landstar trucks in that area the thing is I want the freedom to choose my freight so one week I make stick close to home other week out of boredom get a load to Cali. I just like the idea of doing what I want my question is could I do this and make good money? 75k plus gross take home before taxes but after all expenses let’s say truck costs 1500 a month. Could I just pound out the northeast and get home for the weekend? And still make a good living? Then ina couple weeks shoot out west because I love driving out there and want the freedom to go out there which is why I really don’t wanna work as a regional or local company driver in the Pennsylvania area because I’ll never be able to shoot across the country. But I also need to make at least 75k a year and get decent hometime am I just dreaming or is it very doable?
Landstar, Bennett, admiral merchants and getting home?

And I’ll most likely be doing this with a flatbed trailer because pay is better for owner operators running flat

I can’t say for the skateboards, but running van for LS no you won’t make a living staying in the North east. The rates just aren’t there. You have to run out to the midwest to start seeing some better rates.
What part of Jersey you in? Are you opposed to running under your own authority? -
Skateboard..... staying in the northeast.... I’d say running Pennsylvania/Ohio to md/northern Virginia/ area you’ll be fine

Landstar is like being an owner operator with an authority. You deal with what are called Agents, not brokers and you deal with only them.
You have to figure out how it works with the agents, there is no dispatch and there is a lot of opportunity if you want to take advantage.
There are a lot of threads about this, just search around. -
Company driver here with same basics. Seriously considering moving to O/O leased on to LS or similar with hopes of making decent money with control of my time and life. I don't mind the road but I have kids that I need to be somewhat present for during sports and what not. I'm in Ohio so I think finding out and back routes shouldn't be that difficult.
GreenPete359 Thanks this.
