They were closed at 5am, seemed like a fair place to park. They said it would be ok for a couple hours but not for a full break. That's all I would've needed too, but I ran out of hours 4 hours into being parked there. Couldn't log it

I have been in that situation 2 times in my life. Both times I was helping a good friend and ex football teammate by running his business for him while he was recovering from surgery. I would knock once, tell the driver they were not allowed to park there. The next time there was a knock it was the Jackson County Georgia Sheriff's dept doing the knocking. I have zero patience with these drivers that think the HOS rules give them some kind of trump card over a private property owner.

Marshalls, police, secret service, x- men, Trump, nor anyone else will make the property owner allow that truck to stay on their private property.
It will come down to the driver not properly trip planning and leaving several outs to avoid these situations.

Happened to me last night. Deliver at 2200 inside a huge industrial complex. They got me unloaded in about 5 hours which I showed as sleeper. Wanted 3 more hours for the split break but security came a knockin' and said no trucks are allowed inside the complex after they are empty. Still had legal hours to move but had to do another 10 hour break for the 15 hour break waste. We can expect more of this in the ELD era next year.

We had a Navajo driver parked in the receiving dock do the same thing. Did he expect the store and us to wait for his break to be up so we could deliver? Luckily it must've clicked how stupid it sounded when he said "I'm out of hours", because he fired it up and moved without having to say anything else.

If you were working for the right company you would have that special license plate that allows you to take all of your breaks right on the fuel island. Of course if you are taking a 10 or 34 you should probably see if the place has a cone you can put behind your trailer so everyone knows that you won't be moving for a while.

What quaifies a driver as special enough to be allowed to park in a fuel lane with the cone treatment for his 10 or 34? I've always wondered how to get such VIP parking at a truck stop. Do you just ask the cashier?

I think you're mistaken about the ELDs. The more people with them, the more pressure those shippers and receivers will have on them to either move their #### or let the drivers sit.
