The ELD had plenty of hours, the driver didn't have any and parked where he/she should not have. Instead of blaming the HOS, or trip planning, it is easier to blame an electronic device that could care less.

Although I doubt that shippers and receivers will make ANY accommodation for the HOS and I am talking EVER!
The only way that this is going to work is if EVERYBODY is held responsible.
The HOS should encompass everybody involved. It should be a federal offense for a Walmart, for example, to turf a driver who has had his clock run out by THEM off their property.
This stuff about trip planning is largely baloney. Too many variables, too many wildcards.
However I must say I rarely have a problem. I have a couple of solutions but here is an important one. I use 2 GPSs.
Rand McNally and Delorme.
Why Delorme and what is that anyway?
Delorme is an off the shelf rubbish software sold in Office Depot. It is mostly inaccurate however its redeeming quality is that I can annotate the snot out of it.
I have got parking places, truck stops, places to get water, supermarkets and a bunch of other stuff marked up. Over the years I have built up so many symbols on that thing that when you zoom it out it looks like a pincushion. Rarely have trouble parking in any state.tlalokay Thanks this. -
I'm not sure where all of you drive, but with my experience as an otr driver, the HOS regs have caused me to push myself when tired more so than they have ever helped me avoid driving sleepy. Thetruckersreport.com seems unnaturally bias towards supporting elogs. I didn't expect to see dio many drivers on here being supportive. You cannot convince me that the regs make it easy for us to get sleep when we are tired, and to drive while we have energy. The regs more commonly do the opposite. There are a lot of people here saying "plan" their trip, and maybe they are born with genetics that know exactly when they will be tired, know how short to cut their sleep on days where they will need to sleep again soon after they wake in order to get more work, but i have to believed most people just can't pull this off. The bias is so off in the wrong direction on these forums that I'm starting to think most of you aren't even drivers. I know how this job works, and I'm a person who puts his integrity first in most aspects of my life. I can tell you honestly, without doubt, with an arsenal of proof, that the regs won't keep sleepy drivers off the road. They more likely cause the very opposite. Now if you have a routine schedule with your job then great, the regs may work for you, but the trucking industry doesn't favor routine for most drivers.

All the time and money spent by OOIDA and others fighting the ELD mandate would have been better put to use fighting for revisions in the HOS rules that would address the real issues.MachoCyclone and UsualSuspect Thank this. -
