I get it when over 24 hrs too... but it usually has to be when it has extra days. Just ask, if yes, say thanks. If no, politely say, well, doesn't hurt to ask. Certain dispatchers are more generous than others.....

    txtodd and mattbh23 Thank this.

I always understood layover pay as 24 hour periods where you are not on a load. I've been kindly given layover for loads with more days than drive time required before. But that's a bonus!

As with any company, accessorial pay is at the discretion of operations and management. You could do the same load the same way time after time and get the extra paid one time and denied the next. Life of a truck driver I guess.

I guess I'm just old & set in my ways, but I look for consistency. If I'd known I wouldn't get layover pay on this trip, I would've taken my time getting here & wouldn't have paid my own money for parking at the "J" near the consignee. I don't own this company, and they can set the policies however they see fit. If I don't like their policies, I'm sure they can find someone else to hold this steering wheel. I just wish they would be consistent.

Get use to it...it isn't just Magnum...as much as I like to pick on their shortfalls...it's trucking in general...like I said earlier this week...you can always tell when management is lying by the movement of their lips and this annoying droning sound that is coming out of their mouth.

    txtodd and Knucklehead Thank this.

How is the "hurry up factor" with Magnum? Do they seem to give enough time with delivery schedules? Is it a typical all-nighter refer company?

Tennesseahawk, apparently I'm on a night/ early morning delivery kick this week. Back to back loads with drops @ 0200 and then 0100. In my almost 2 years here I have never had this kind of luck. The loads usually have enough time that you don't have to completely bust ### to make your delivery.

    Knucklehead Thanks this.

Biggest reason I don't like refer freight. I don't sleep well during the day, and that screws me up for driving at night. I do like running early morning, say 0300-0400, but all nighters are about out of the question.

Enter know-it-all remark about working for McDonald's.

???McDonalds??? Anyway, I agree wholeheartedly about late night/ very early (before 0300-0400) drops, don't really like 'em but hey I enjoy the money:)! There are a few (lots if they tell the truth) that love running real early in the morning. Anyway, I enjoy my job and the company overall ain't too bad. No one company is perfect.....
