I've come to find I'm just as well off being at the house for most holidays.

Exactly my sentiments, they aren’t going to pay layover or holiday pay, so why stay out? IF (with extra emphasis) if they could or would plan me on a load that ran the holiday (talking all four days running) I’d stay out and run it!

I was pretty busy during Christmas last year. But labor day weekend was a waste big time for me!

The 4th was a absolutely waste for me. Delivered in Bismarck in the morning on the 3rd. Then reloaded in Fargo with a 260 mile load to Hudson for the 6th. “That’s all we have” I was told. I will not stay out over any holiday after that.

See what happens when you become trucker? You get pissed nobody else wants to work every day of the year.

I was kept running over Thanksgiving last year. It really is hit or miss (usually miss), depending on where you are. Not really Magnum's fault nobody wants to load or unload a truck on a holiday.

My advice, pick the holidays that are important to you and take them off. The ones you don't care about, work around them as best you can.

I'm taking Thanksgiving off this year. Mostly because I'll be running out of food and clean laundry by then anyway. Don't really care about turkey, would rather have a good steak.

Same for me. Had a load that normally delivered on Monday morning but because of Labor day it delivered Tuesday morning. Of course layover was denied.

I work most holidays because the only ones I really care about are Thansgiving and Christmas. I came back out right after Christmas last year and worked through New Years and had a decent run. But for the most part, there seems to be little incentive in staying out for holidays here.

Am I the only one who trys to avoid Carrier brand refer units? Everytime this thing comes on it sounds and feels like the end of the world!

Trust me, no you’re not! However, in the summer months they seem to cool quicker and run more efficiently! I love a Carrier IF it’s on constant run, start/ stop not so much:)

The Carrier units were the reason I bought a sound bar for my flat screen tv. My tv's speakers are on the bottom, and the way the wall mount angles the tv so you can see it, it make it tough to hear the thing when a Carrier was running on high rpms.

I'm one of the few weirdos that will actually seek out a Carrier sometimes. As already mentioned, they seem to cool better and run more efficient, especially in the summer. When I first started at Magnum, I was startled awake by the Carriers on start/stop. Luckily I quickly learned to sleep through it.
