What's the benefit of spread axle reefer trailers?

You can put 40k on it and it a smoother ride

Vic Firth and Zata40 Thank this.

You can have up to 40k on a spread axle, only 34k on tandems. Makes it less of a problem to be loaded tail-heavy.

    Zata40 Thanks this.

But they back like #### unless you have the autodump on one of the axles.

    Woobie and runningman0661 Thank this.

Yeah but once you pull a spread for a couple years in a row it becomes so easy

I hope you're right. After all my years running 53' van/reefer trailers (with a normal axle setup), pulling a 48' spread on a flat or single drop intermittently makes me look like a rookie. I actually have a preference for our 45' double drop w/o a spread simply because it's easier to maneuver.

It has a lot of forgiveness when backing. You can follow it around easier.

So was going to say I started week 4 today, had to drive to Elizabeth NJ. Moving a 53' trailer through there was very cherry popping. But on the way down there we got called.

Tomorrow I'm being dropped off to recover a unit. Its an automatic, then i have to race to Campbell's to pick up an empty, then race to coke to drop and hook, and race to coon rapids. I have no idea the state of the truck, if there is a fue card with the keys, and I really have to watch my clock. So talk about being thrown right into it. I hope I can get my 10 in at a rest area for an easy off / on.
