I used to be able to spot bus drivers.
A certain walk bent forward eyes straight ahead, arms on the wheel and ears not hearing anything behind them. (As if they were still pushing that 50+ people on the bus to a town of many towns or express to a DC bus station for a schedule.)
IF you want something really outrageous, get a look at the Casino buses that race each other to Atlantic City from Delaware and other places. As a trucker it's easier to get into a quality gaming house such as Sky City rather than be enduring a bus trip at 100 mph to the end of Jersey and back.
Im not here to pick on bus people. They do alot which I frankly would not be willing to put up with myself. IF i had 50 people demanding everything under the sun for 10 hours and 500 miles I would have as they say gone postal a long time ago. It's not for me.Bud A. Thanks this. -
Or so it goes. Who the hell knows. And the private sector mental health doctors? nuh uh. The fastest way to lose everything that you are in life is to tell a suit "I want to killmyself." and boom. You are not going to be able to for a very long time.Bud A. and De Trucker Thank this. -
There's a conspiracy going on that crackhound bus lines was responsible for transporting Jews to concentration camps, packing them with just enough room to put your hands above your head and giving them a bucket for a bathroom. It's wonderful to see they kept true to the original customer service nearly 8 decades later.

I once rode a grey dog bus, I don't recommend it.

I sometimes thought about going up there for a summer myself, but I had a wife and small child at the time so that wasn't going to happen. Looking back, I'm glad I never did it. I couldn't haul people. Heck, I hauled perishables once (onions) and it drove me nuts. I'll stick to steel or chemicals, thanks. -
I think some of that tour bus stuff has changed a little. most fly in or come up on a cruizs and then tour bus either to fairbanks and either ride the railroad or fly back. Those highway tour buses stop to see a sight only for a very few minutes then hurry them back on the bus. A lot of the older people complain about the physical stress, I doubt they are throwing too many big tips these days, but I don't know. I do know the actual driver pay is low. I also know sharing the road with them can be down right dangerous, they will park right in the middle of a curve if a rodent is spotted.
The ones that run the haul road is a lot better class of drivers, they wiyll communicate on the radio, and do their best to keep out of the way.Bud A. Thanks this. -
Last experience I had with the bus business was right after I retired from Overnite and it was strictly charters and tours. BUT, even this type of the bus business can be a real pain. You still deal with dummies who think they know how to drive better than you, they know a better way than you, they do not understand that you cannot put a bus where you can a car. You go to D.C. and tell them very plainly, parking is not allowed at certain buildings, like the Capitol. You are allowed a few minutes to unload and a few minutes to load. You make it very clear, what time you will be back to pick them up. Do you think they are all there???? NOPE! I have circled the block more times than I care to think, waiting on some dummies to finally show up.
Bud A. Thanks this. -
