The Bobtail will only cover you while under dispatch. (that's the way it was explained to me) If you are not under dispatch and you wreck....it's on you. Example would be if you were driving to Wal-Mart while you were off. The operative word is "while under dispatch." understand this is what mercer told me. In any event I only have their $20.00 Bobtail..and my own Bobtail...the rest is my insurance through OOIDA. I also have insurance for clean up and tow. Make sure to have a rider on your policy for clean up. This is a must.

Basically my philosophy is to keep carrier very limited in regards to my truck. Makes things easier in the long run. Plus less hassle if I ever
    have to leave.

Basically the less I have the carrier involved with my truck the better lol.

You misunderstood something. The whole reason you have to buy bobtail or unladen insurance is so you are covered when not under dispatch. Having insurance from mercer and someone else is just paying twice for the same thing. That's throwing money away.

Understood. I just have the $20.00 from Mercer just to have it. Its just 20 bucks lol. The rest I have through OOIDA.

In any event one thing a lot of people over look in their insurance is the clean up. That covers the diesel spills and also the load if need be. Many people assume this is in their policy. And IF it is in their policy it's usually for an extremely small amount. Make sure to have a clean up rider.

Yep, that for sure is a misunderstanding. It also does no good to have both, they aren't going to pay twice. As long as you furnish proof of the bobtail from ooida your good, that's 240 bucks year wasted for redundant coverage. Mercers policy thru them covers all that plus has no deductible windshield coverage. You are paying for one coverage that is useless in event of a claim. No different than insuring truck for over the value, they are only gonna pay the actual value, unless a special policy for a customized or antique vehicle, etc.

Ok now we are on track regarding the conversation.

Mercer told me that their Bobtail coverage will not cover me if I am Bobtailing while I am off....(not under dispatch). Basically it was explained to me like this....... From a liability perspective Mercer will be covered when it comes to liability claims....I will not be covered. Hence the full Bobtail coverage I have with OOIDA.

My OOIDA insurance has winsheild coverage. Safelite auto glass does do truck winshields!!! Mine got busted 3 months ago in NE when someone threw a rock off an overpass. Safelite charged me $245 for the windshield. OOIDA reimbursed me $100. My out of pocket was only $145.00. With Bobtail you still need the clean up policy. If your tanks rupture you are responsible for the clean up. Its a lot of $$$$$$

    Safelite will come to you.

If you are asking if you need to have all the money up front, I believe that was a policy instituted recently. I can guess why it got implemented.

Again. You misunderstood. Mercers regular liability insurance will not cover you if you are not under a load. The bobtail insurance you buy from them will.

If you still dont understand. Read the policy.

First off. Where are you from. Some places will have better equip and give you a Mercer discount if you ask. I am from Kansas City so I use Zamzow for my equipment. I got ratchet binders from Northern Tool (showed them their own internet price and they honored it). I also got my rubber straps through Zamzow. Mercer does have nylon straps at a decent price as well as the snap binders. I hate their tarps. I got some steel tarps from them....and the seams started to come undone. The stitching is really poorly done. Perhaps it was the tarp I got......however I heard many other drivers complain. I got my tarps at Zamzow and I got a Mercer discount. Some online stores will have great specials with free shipping sometime.

Feel free to message me if you want.
