I worked for Schuster and I enjoyed my time there. My only knock on the company is I absolutely loathe International tractors.
Speed_Drums and Vic Firth Thank this. -

Seems like they're replacing a lot of the internationals with KW's so that's a huge plus.
After I saw your comment, I was curious and looked up their FMCSA page. Seems like their scores have gotten a little worse lately. They used to be <20% OOS and now >24%. I never had any real equipment issues there so I wouldn't let that scare you off. Could just be people getting pulled over for flats they didn't realize or something, idk. They cycle their trailers on a pretty short time frame, so pretty reliable equipment.
They used to be open fueling and open routing, which was a big plus. Not sure if they still are.Speed_Drums, Suspect Zero, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well I'm currently leased on with Kaplan hauling steel look up there csa score. Just looking for a change rates just aren't there with steel and not only that Kaplan keep leasing on guys on and cutting rates to keep us all busy. 5 years as a owner op I had my fun to say the least. Thanks for the info.

Well, gonna fire this thread up again. Got rehired and starting back at orientation on Monday. Don't have much to add yet, but I did get a choice of bus, plane, or full size sedan rental to get up there, which is always a good sign. If you choose the rental, they'll reimburse the costs for gas to get up there. 70 dollars towards lyft/Uber to get to whatever mode of transportation.
Opted for the rental, so being able to bring all my stuff from previous employer to them is good for the wallet and stress. Not really any missed pay when you deliver a last load on Friday and start there on Monday.
Per the orientation itinerary, it looks to still be a 2.5 day orientation. Orientation pays 400 and then an extra 150 for doing tax forms and other paperwork online beforehand, so totals out to 550. Hotel is Baymont and that'll start being paid by them on Sunday evening. I don't mind -- I have a car and a day to go explore Kansas City and Omaha on the way.
Inverters and APU's still in every truck and CB radio is supplied. I have my own, but I like that they encourage having a CB.
PTO accrues from day 1, 401k at 90 days, and insurance kicks in after 60.
That's all the info I have thus far, but will update again after orientation.
Edit: The pet policy is 50/wk for 10 weeks and you will most likely get put in an older truck. Older meaning 2+ years old, so not a huge negative, but not the best pet policy in the world.
If you leave before 6 months, it's a 500 dollar deduction. Kinda understandable since they are pretty driver-oriented getting to orientationLast edited: Jul 5, 2024

Schuster trucks have always looked pretty decent, especially when i see them pull the Blue Bunny ice cream trailers. I drove for Magnum for a little over a year and would probably still be with them if i didn’t have an irrational hatred of grocery DC’s. I really like some of these midwestern companies. Well..except for a certain dumpster fire based in South Sioux City but we won’t talk about that.
jeff18 and Thrasher28 Thank this.
