Yup, just gotta find what's works for you. The company I work for has the same 1 day per week policy with a 5 day max, but I have never followed that and never will. I've taken as little as 5 and as many as 10 days off. They've never said a word.

OK sorry for the delay in posts. I got a load of potatoes out of the Idaho falls area going to new jersey, delivered that Tuesday morning, deadheaded to Bethlehem,Pennsylvania to pick up a load of chocolate going to costa mesa,California for a Monday morning delivery. I'm gonna be completely honest about Holland here, yes they have long hauls, BUT their pay is very subpar. they pay .39 cents a mile. But get this, 16 cents of that is perdiem. so you're actually only making 23 cents a mile as far as the government or any bank is concerned. The long hauls are nice but I need more money. I don't think I'm gonna be here very much longer.

Isn't it a bit soon to be quitting, especially since you knew the pay up front when you started? Plus regarding the per diem pay that's new apparently since they didn't have that when I was there. I can understand the whole issue with banks and securing a loan, but I don't get these people that want to pay more taxes to the government when social security is going bankrupt lol

It goes beyond taxes. Suppose you want to buy a house and need to get a mortgage (as over 90% do). The only income that counts to a lender is the non-per diem amount, which in the case of the poster would be whatever he makes at .23 cpm.

Wouldn’t it suck to be told you can’t buy a house because your income isn’t high enough, even though you and them both know you make a lot more, but it doesn’t count because it’s not taxable?

Well if you're living paycheck to paycheck then yeah you'd want higher taxible earnings to acquire a loan. If you have savings and assets for collateral I'll take the extra cash in my pocket that per diem allows.

Basically it depends on the individual person and their own situation, one size doesn't fit all.

You couldn’t opt out of the per diem? I feel like Holland would give you that option, especially since they didn’t even offer per diem 2 years ago.

Stick around for a bit Dave, you can actually make some decent coin over at Holland.

I don’t know very many people that have 100k, or more, in cash to pay for house. That doesn’t mean they’re living paycheck to paycheck.

Dang your leaving already? I've been humping for a couple of years now for 36 to 40 cents a mile...which ain't enough I know. Not sure how long you have been driving but hope you find something

I'm not sure, I got an offer for 50 cents a mile and a faster truck, guaranteed 1000.00 a week. Very tempted to take it
