That's marked 12'2", which according to convention is only 13'2", which is less than 13'6".

he got confused. Seen 12’2 thought well maybe they fudged a little and it’s 13’6 because someone squeezed a couple inches in on the height then they screwed it up by a foot.

Only stands to reason that the slower you go then if it does hit there would be less damage. As slow as I was going it would be very minimal damage to the trailer only. I’d probably hear it or feel it before it caused any damage other than a little scrape. Flying under a bridge like that would guarantee it would hit just because of the trailer bouncing. That bridge was in a rural town in Upstate New York. Only 2-3 cars were behind me.

Your good to go the speed limit unter a 13'6" bridge. 13'10" you can fly 100mph over potholes and be fine. You're overreacting.

Clearance is not the same as bridge height. 13'6" clearance means there's enough room for a 13'6" trailer to go under at normal speed.

Look at the BQE or Cross Bronx. A lot of the over passes are marked 12’2”. As a rule of thumb i’ll in NYC away is anything 12’2” or more is a go.

NY almost always marks bridges 12" lower than they actually are, to compensate in case packed snow is built-up on the road. There is a large railroad bridge over Genesee St. in Buffalo that's marked 12'7", and trucks go under it all day long...

Well, you're a "nervous Norvis", then. That bridge was probably 14'10". You could've sat on the top of the trailer and still cleared..

Are you sure that's still true? That rule was constantly ignored even 35 years ago! I pulled a 53' into NYC at least a dozen times before 1994..

Well, a lot of guys tell you a certain part of their body is 6" longer than it really is....

Marked 12'2", actually 13'2", 4" skimmed off the top? Yeah, that's exactly what I see....
Somebody can't do math in their head, it seems...

That's the clearance on the gussets over the left lane only....which a truck should never be in, anyway.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.
