So most of us know NY marks bridges 12" lower than actual clearance. But did you know it's actually illegal to go under a bridge marked lower than your vehicle's physical height???

I fell in a rabbit hole and found this in an official document specifying how restrictions should be marked on NY roads.

Ok, cool. Nice to know, but...

Yeah. Read that twice. Freaking busy body bureaucrats and their ridiculous rules.

Here's the document where it came from.

NY does everything bass ackwards. Exit markers are reverse of the rest of the country and don't follow mile markers, bridge clearances don't match bridge clearances, up is down, left is right... and so on.

NY and CA... the two states that should be expelled so the rest of us can live in peaceful bliss.

Exactly! Just went under a bridge in upstate NY and the bridge was marked 13’ 10.” I was creeping under it because I didn’t even want to touch it. I had traffic behind me honking, which I just ignore and do whatever I feel comfortable doing. :D

If you have a 53' trailer, technically, you shouldn't be in NYC anyways. Seems that laws are made to be broken when it comes to trucks.

There's a law against anything it seems. You're just figuring this out?

Idiots rule the world. Why even mark it? Hey that guy is 6 feet tall so let’s say he’s 5 foot..

    It’s like the old saying…

Depends on which part because there's a lot of New York City that isn't just Manhattan. I kind of wonder how they expect to get trucks into all the warehouses down in Long Island City where the exit leads to a 12 ft 6 marked clearance but that's the only way to get in. Not to mention that I-95 goes straight through the city.

Im not sure I understand. Ignoring New York, why would you creep a 13'6" trailer under a bridge with 13'10" clearance?
