Ive been on both sides unloading and delivering and worked with most of these #######. Ridge and LTL gave the best advice.

Most of the people who work retail are either too stupid/lazy/depressed to move up in life and this is the best job they will EVER get so they resent everyone doing even slightly better. Or are there as a transit point in their life and hateing every second of it. Both usually feel they are underpaid even in the cases they make as much or more then you. And both are like this to everyone related to their work. It normally aint personal.

Best you can do is smile, document, do the job and move on. If they refuse to unload get the signature for a rejected load and call it in. If they lollygag document everything upto and including photos so if your hours behind, its on the store and crew. Not you.

Hate to say it but there is nothing to be gained trying to zing one liners back. Best case you get a joke going and nothing changes. Worst case they take offense and its YOUR ### on the line. Best thing to do is stay polite professional and do your job then move on. A skill these people generally lack hence why they are 60 years old unloadong a truck curseing everyone around them for holding them back.

    "I don't either"

From there it would get a lot less cordial.

Figure out how to rid your life of lazy people. You'll never get rid of all of them and the negative vibe that comes with them but it sounds like you're in a cess pool of it. Move on, driver. Life's too short.

The previous 100 delivery drivers have taught them how to treat you.

I had an aunt that worked at DG . She hired in as a manager , she only took the job because it was exactly 3.1 miles from the house , which was important . Her husband had severe parkinson disease and she was close by . My point is she hated DG said it was the worst employer she'd seen in 30yrs. The place was a revolving door couldnt keep help and half of'em would try to steal the store blind . She dreaded every day of nearly 5 yrs so not everyone is bottom of the barrel that work there but most hate DG . Btw DG was on the top 5 worst companys to work for by the BBB couple yrs ago .

I delivered beer and food service. Beer was COD. Want to piss the beer man off? Have him roll the beer in, put price labels on, and then decide that you can’t afford it all. My supervisor and I had words when I brought all the beer back. We had more words when the customer complained that the COD had to be paid before I rolled the first case in. Fool me once…

In food service, all we had to do was dolly the stuff in. Drop the frozen in the freezer, cold into the cooler, and dry goods in the middle of the storage. Asked my supervisor if we had to stock the shelves. No. Not in the contract, but some drivers do.
So you roll the food in, and they refuse to sign your BOL until you put the food on the shelves. Not happening. They go full panic when you begin to roll it back out. They will call the sales rep. Rep will ask you to be a good sport and stock the shelves. Nope. Now you are officially the AH. No problem, I don’t do freebies. I didn’t have a set route at the time so every time I came into these trouble spot, this issue came up.

So, all I can say is that you want to know your duties and have your contacts at hand for when the problems arise.

I once told a backhaul customer they had an hour to get their crap off my truck or I'd dump it in their parking lot. But, that was about a week before I was changing jobs anyway so...

Edit to add: It felt good to be King for a day!

The people suck because the city/area you're delivering too sucks. Bad culture equals bad people. I don’t think the people will be any better in Vegas either.
