Hey guys I just got my first class a job and it’s in Oilfield flatbed work. We have Peterbilt 389’s and on these trucks the clutch pedal depresses very far for my reach. Obviously not an issue when I’m shifting but when I’m at a stop and I need to depress the pedal all the way to the floor in order to stop the clutch to get it into gear it’s difficult to do so. I’m not short I’m 5’11”. Is there any tricks to using these trucks with that clutch pedal is it depresses so far into the floor? In CDL school we used freightliners and the clutch was very easy to depress all the way to the clutch stop.
I find myself driving with the seat quite a bit more forward just because of this fact. Havent really driven too much yet to figure it out so just looking for tips prior to getting more seat time.
Thanks a lot!

Maybe it just needs to be adjusted. I drive a 389 and mine isn’t like that.

Peterbilt clutch pedals just suck. I've driven one Peterbilt and I absolutely HATE that floor mounted pedal.

Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
Tie a block of wood to the top of it.
Speed_Drums, Cowboyrich and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Iowa customs I think, makes a little pedal extender for Pete clutch pedals. Other than that it's probably something you just have to get used to. My 379 pedal has to be #### near through the floor.

^^^ what he said. I've seen a lot of Pete's with that extender

Hey guys. Got another question I'll add to this thread.
With a 10 speed transmission, when I'm on roads that i'm going say 65 mph or 55mph and I take a exit off the highway or a stop light turns red in front of me, I am struggling a bit to downshift fast enough coming up to these stops. Some of the ramps off these highways are short, and I cant drop my speed too much untill I hit the exit, then when on the exit I got to slow all the way down for the stop sign, etc. What gear do you guys normally come to a stop in with the 10 speeds?
I found myself in 10th at say 60 mph, then down shift to 9th easy, 8th easy, then as I'm getting to 7th the stopsign, truck, stop light etc is coming up very close and I dont want to take my foot off the brake to downshift further in 7th... In school we came to stops in 6th gear with the 10 speeds, but that was empty and I'm just finding at these stops I dont have time to downshift, or I'm just not confident I can downshift fast enough to get back on that brake peddle as I may not have much distance left in front of me to stop....
Any advice or help appreciated.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Put the seat on the floor, Pete’s have the easiest clutch pedals on the market, can’t stand them coming down from the dash like my kw
