Talked to several OTR guys . They don't get paid by the hour if they break down. Some of them get $50-$90 a day of their truck is down for maintenance.

    Seems like a ripoff

Majority of OTR is a ripoff from what I can tell but idk I haven't ever run otr. My father in law drivers for Penske and seems to like it and makes a decent living but there isnt much about it that sounds appealing.

I'm thinking of buying my own truck in a few years, even though I feel like I'm still too ignorant. I can't believe how cheap you can get a cascadia daycab. I could haul regional or local gasoline.

It's cheaper to buy a cascadia or a used Volvo than it is to buy a new pick up truck.

I have been meaning to drive by the UPS Terminal see how it's looking. Haven't seen to many UPS Freight trucks out on the road. Things are really heating up over on the UPS Strike Thread. I don't know how those guys are going to vote or what there going to do. The members on here though all seem to be of the mind set to vote no and let UPS have it.

You're companies probably making good money, because capacity is very tight right now and because of that the other LTL's won't be discounting. Industry pundits said for shippers to "not expect any discounts."

UPS is the neighboring yard our dock faces there dock. It didn't look like there was a single person there all day all the tractors parked in the corner.

All this week I have been stuck in a straight truck.. whats up with that I asked my city dispatch  I'm on call for tomorrow though:D At 3 pm today they game me 4 pick ups and the first one was 45 minutes away from where I was. All 4 places were closing at 4:30. Yeah I'll definitely get all of them, let me see if I can pull a rabbit out of my hat while I'm at it. I couldn't get to the last place on time. Oh well it's not like we're hurting for freight anyway.

They are already looking for help on the dock on Thanksgiving morning. Apparently that "help on the dock" usually turns into via road run lol
Although holiday pay and overtime for the same day sounds tempting....
