That actually sounds like a fair process.

Our place has about 150 doors, with probably 80 drivers.

When they cut a run, no matter where you are on the list, you float until a bid run opens up.

Also seems like a fair setup. With us, everything got bumped. The only upside to our system was that everyone knew each other's route and we could fill in for each other.

One reason why I am reluctant to get back into LTL is because I like stability and predictability of a set start time and route.

If that's a certain company with green and white trucks, another reason I hope they answer my app someday. Greatly appreciate all the descriptions of how it works at various companies.

All of them sound better than the bump/bid I went through as a rail. Phone calls in the middle of rest that I've been displaced, then gotta run to the terminal and look through the many lists for an opening before my bump ran out. Often meant suddenly moving my locker contents to a terminal in a different state.

If I missed the window i had to wait for a biddable opening which could be weeks and then another week for it to go through so they could run the seniority. Yawn, no big hurry. But they acted like I was trying to shut down the country when I'd try to take time off on my own. :^)

Seniority with hangers-on; we had 30-year guys who couldn't hold the extra board some parts of the year at the terminal I hired at. Us couple-few-year guys spent involuntary time at home unless we were willing to drive, and I learned to gripe bitterly about anything I did find.

That’s just one of the givens of the trucking business. Turbos going kablooey happens to all of us. This was just your turn.

It worked out really well. Every body got a chance to do something different if they wanted\had the seniority.
Some got to keep extra board, they chose it.

That's what happened here to this little angel.
Blew the turbo turning a corner, sounded like blowing across a glass coke bottle (but really loud). Before the cab filled with smoke and I had oil everywhere.

Are dock workers born stupid? Or does it take practice?
