Please, I need your advise and expertise with reefer trailers.

I am a woman and ...of course... new in the trucking industry, I need to buy a refrigerated trailer since the "rented" unit failed.
After 2 weeks driving in and out of FL state looking for the right trailer, I have (2) options but I am not sure which option is better. Please give me your advise taking in consideration that my truck does NOT go to West Coast and it is a supposed to have around 60% refrigerated loads.

    • Option 1 = Great Dane / 2007 trailer with a 2013 Thermo King SB330 unit with 2,700 reefer hours. Trailer DOES NOT include any accessories . Price $22,000

    • Option 2 = Utility 3000 /2008 trailer with a Thermo King SB330 unit with 29,000 reefer hours BUT NEW COMPRESSOR INSTALLED. Trailer DOES include ALL accessories, side skirts, e tracks and PSI. Price : $19,000

Which option would you buy ? Thanks

The thing with buying pre used or pre owned stuff is that you have no guarantee that everything is going to continue to run fine for me if i'm going to haul chilled produce is to make sure the unit / reefer is running cold enough to keep the produce from spoiling i'd ask the people who were selling to start the units up before you get there and take a temp check when you arrive..Also check what ever contract if your going to sign a bill of sale keep in mind buying "as is" comes with no guarantee if you drive away and the thing breaks down you'll have no legal recourse. Learnt this from watching lots of "Judge Judy " court rulings. With out looking or checking either trailer i'd also go for option 1. It might pay to get a refrigerated mechanic to check it over as well due diligence is the buyers responsibility.

Please do not take this as an insult if you know to do this, but I would stress that you absolutely must run a pre-trip test on the unit. Not checking the tires and lights of the trailer. The automated pre-trip on the reefer unit itself.

If the reefer unit pre-trip does not pass, you do not buy it, even if they offer to 'fix it' for you.

Because they #### well should have fixed it already, which means they are either incompetent, the unit is a lemon and already failed after they fixed it, or they intentionally tried to sell you a crap unit, hoping you wouldn't pre-trip the reefer unit itself.

I would recommend to hire someone who understand how to check.
Option 1 is much attractive but something is smelly as reefer 2013 has only 2,700 hours.
