I need to go from Joplin to the Baton Rouge La area on a holiday weekend. I really do not want to go thru the Memphis mess but I cannot see any restrictions going down US-65 thru Arkansas. My map book is not showing any concerns but the computer/GPS both want to route me thru the I40 mess. I can force it to go west but I know the 49 route will slow me down and it is 100 miles longer for some reason.
I will be 77 feet total length running a long nose pete and 53 foot step deck. Usually my loads hang over 6 feet to the rear. Now I just have the truck and trailer measured at 77 feet total. Not much I can do with that, but it makes turns a bit wider. For once my load will not hang over at all and I will weigh about 56,000 gross total. Height wise I will be under the usual 13'6" .
The way I am seeing it I will have a 675 mile drive and it should take about 10.5 hours total plus any holiday delays. Risky for a holiday weekend but the destination has a dead end street I can park in front of the delivery. It has been a long time since I have traveled US Highways especially thru Arkansas and Louisiana.
Routing with a long load going south

71 straight down to Texarkana isn’t bad. 49 straight down to fort smith then 71. Then 49 again

I would stay away from 65, a better route is 49 to 40 to Little Rock. Then the by pass to to 530, then 167 south to 49 south to 190.That is a faster route. Not much traffic on 167. 65 in Arkansas is slow.
