Hmmmm...Lexington NE to Vernon CA...
70 is no of course.
80 to Salt lake and down, 1400 miles. Fuel pricing 2.25 in Cheyenne (2.24 if I go to PFJ and include the "Discount") , 2.33 Salt Lake City
Down the "Backway": 80-76 to Limon, down to the 25 to the 40. 1509 miles. Fuel Pricing 2.18 San Filipe, NM, 2.29 Lupton
Gotta be there Thursday from Mon-Tues.
I guess down to the 40 would be the best.

Most would agree that leasing onto a carrier, it is best to be paid on a percentage of the load rather than a flat mileage rate. The Landstars and Mercers and Eagles are getting about 75% of the load to the IC. So a $2 buck load would pay $1.50. However the IC has to pay for everything related to the business of trucking-- trailer, ifta, tolls etc etc.
At JCT it could be argued that we are paid closer to 50% of each load more or less and a good portion of what we are not paid, is used to pay for all those business related things. I just wanted to say as a JCT IC we do indeed pay for all those little perks including the trailer, including the entire staff back at the yard, the mechanics, the washbay people, the buildings, the lights, the bonuses, the cash giveaways the cars, and motorcycles etc, everything is paid for by the IC.
I look at it a little different, every dollar I save on fuel I have to turn around and peel some of that off and give it to the IRSSteel Tiger Thanks this. -
Then again, I want to fill up as cheap as possible as close to California as possible. So I don't have to fuel there. Last week I filled in Lupton 2.29, and did Vegas, El Monte, Onterio, Riverside, Phoenix, Casa Grande, and Phoenix again before putting in fuel again at QuickTrip for 2.19. -
If anyone has noticed the sign for Heath in Amarillo, they pay their O/Os something that 1.54 + FSC a mile. But only if you have your own authority with them. (Which they don't say on the sign).
If you don't, and you lease on, (Like us), its actually 1.10/mile + FSC. So it costs them 43 cents a mile for the "Everything else" (Though its still 20 cents more a mile than we make here......*Grumble*)
That would make that 2 Buck load pay 1.07 a mile after "Behind the scenes" expenses.
I know its not a DIRECT comparison, but....Its in the ballpark I guess.
And 50% is pretty average I would say, though I've looked over the shoulder at screens and sometimes its much lower. Depends on customer, and I'm assuming Tyson and JBS pays the most as they are the ones we focus on with the 98% OTD.scottied67 Thanks this. -
The other guy gets 74% of load and 100% of FSC with company trailer.
The advantage is you can choose your own loads based on rate and weight. There's a lot more work paper wise that way, but it's also more money.
I thought I took a ton of time off....These guys make me look like a workaholic.MachoCyclone and scottied67 Thank this. -
I was over at Roadrunner for 2.5 years, mostly mileage rate around $1.5x a mile and 92% of broker negotiated freight rate. But they tied my hands on the broker frieght so much I couldn't get it and when I could I had to use in house brokers who controlled the rate cons trying to sell me 92% of $1.1x all day long which is bogus lies. I feel like it is a much fairer deal over at JCT.Kamkor Thanks this. -
