I have thought about fixing my Apu but for the few days a week in the summer I might idle I just can't make the math work ....and if i.m sitting more than.15 hours i.m either home or in a hotel....1/2 a gph to idle is only 1.35 an hour maybe 20 hours a week Max that scrap iron in a box just dosent seam like it is worth messing with anymore

Last time I looked at my scan gauge it was almost a gallon and a quarter at high idle an hour.

Plus the inverter doesn't run one of my appliances. Too much draw.

If the truck had Opti idle as a backup I wouldn't stress too much about the idling at least it would shut off at temp. The last time the apu went down and I went to the Gulf Coast I was up and down all night turning the truck off or on. And regens suck in the middle of the night.

No reason to run at high idle but my accert dosent have a dpf so my issues are a tad different ..a gallon and a quarter I would think I wouldn't trust the numbers on your gauge in the summer when I idle quite a bit (for me) it drops mpg by about .3 mpg

My APU needs a generator still. Been that way for probably 2 months now. I can't bring myself to spend a couple thousand plus lost time to have it replaced.

Yeah I'm trying to protect the dpf, main reason for the high idle. If I low idle it floats between .3 and .5 gph.

Turns out I'll actually be here at the yard tomorrow so I may bring the part in and talk to someone in the shop and see if they can switch it over to a warranty replace. Worst they can say is no. All I know is I have a nice cold blowing Apu that ain't overheating.

I wouldn't say anything, they may declare that your warranty is invalid for working on it yourself. Just write off the $250 as a business expense and save your warranty which is worth thousands.

I could see them making the radiator fan itself not warranty covered but not the rest of the APU. Meaning of it fails again will cost me out of pocket and then the warranty will resume on the fan manufacturer side.

    Also...

In fact, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which is enforced by the FTC, makes it illegal for manufacturers or dealers to claim that your warranty is void or to deny coverage under your warranty simply because someone other than the dealer did the work.

They would also have to prove that me replacing my radiator fan cause some kind of damage and that would void the warranty example would be me replacing the radiator fan and suddenly my radiator leaking they would have to prove that I punched a hole in it during my repair and the subsequent repair would not be warranty covered.

Or God forbid the wiring shorts out because I've snipped a wire on the fan and the Apu burns up. They would have to prove that I did that.

To mitigate that I could have W&B just look at the fan to see it's installed correctly....

Well, this tire had a good run. 525k miles on it (along with the matching one on the other side). Time for 2 new drive tires.
