Or the company knows that the driver is going to be a pain no matter what, so they're running the truck to maximize profits and internal metrics and don't care about how happy this particular driver is.

Sounds like he rarely actually deals with his actual dedicated asset manager. The fill ins don't care. I have a pretty good working relationship with my asset manager, but when he's out things aren't the same. And weekends particularly bad. Never been great, but last year or two seem to have gotten so much worse. Its not uncommon to get loads that they ignore pta, hos, etc just because its less deadhead. Then show up to the pickup, and didn't get the right numbers or appt or something. Then Monday morning comes along and regular crew has no clue what happened over the weekend because no one left a note or something. Idk if theyre just absolutely swamped or what, and I try and give the benefit of the doubt, but as usual someone else screws up and we deal with the consequences.

I had a weekend linehaul run to do once. I called central dispatch to find out what my back haul was going to be so I’d know if I’d need a tandem axle or not.

From what I heard in the background while trying to convince the tard I was talking to that I am in fact NOT a complete moron and actually know what the hell I’m doing, you’d think I called a night club. God forbid anyone be asked to interrupt their party atmosphere to do the JOB they were actually HIRED and PAID to do.

Taking a reset in Barstow then headed down to the drop yard in San Bernardino to pick up a loaded trailer to take over to Riverside to deliver to Ralph’s then afterwards bouncing over to the Phoenix area to pick up a load of Red Bull going to Romeoville Illinois on pace for another 3000 mile week… This week ending today I had 2896 miles

Oh, all that's very true. It's the same at almost every carrier over 1,000 trucks. At least for most drivers. They learn how to deal with the excrement and stack cash.

Then you have the "special drivers". They care more about average length of haul than average miles, and will take a 2,500 mile load over 10 x 300 mile loads. Or they don't understand the pay structure (see post 383). Or they drive hard instead of smart (26). Or they're 'Angry Drivers' (4273). The first three types could get intentionally taken advantage of, but rarely are. Dispatch will do what they can to keep them happy even if it's against the driver's best interest (rest assured Dispatch won't try to educate these drivers more than once).

Now the Angry Drivers, they're going to get screwed in holes they didn't know they had. They will have a reputation that causes Office Critters not to care. They're going to let the computer opt Angry Driver onto a low mile load/excess time that avoids dead head instead of working with the planners to advance loads or bounce out of a market. If a person knows they're going to get yelled at regardless, that person is going to make the choice that results in the least amount of effort on their part.

SSB falls into the Angry Driver category. When dispatch sends a corporate mandated message about ensuring OTD for Tyson, SSB responds with angry snark. He doesn't think about dispatch needing to toe the line, he lashes out. That's going to get passed around the office, and other people are going to start having a Pavlovian response to messages/calls from SSB - be polite but do nothing more than the minimum required.

Three years ago SSB had enough issues with Shaffer that he left for greener pastures, which quickly soured for him - then got worse with the corporate restructure. Now he's back at Shaffer with the same issues he had before. "When you have beef with everyone, maybe everyone isn't the issue." and "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result."

The bonus is $.02/mile isn't it? That's a $640 bonus (before taxes) or $213 per month. If you divide that by what I make per mile, that equates to one extra 300 mile day per month. Which is better than nothing, barely.

I presume that you are referring to me as being the driver being a pain? Since you know me so well, what have I done to be a pain? All I do is get on the people that aren't doing their job. I only ask them to work as hard as I do. I pick up and deliver on time, safely. I scan in my paperwork promptly (many time while still at the receiver, but it has been as late as when I end my day, before I eat supper), I fuel where and how many gallons they require, I make sure my equipment is in an "inspection ready" condition (along with my logs). And all my general complaints to dispatch is about increasing miles. Last time I checked, trucking companies make money by moving freight, how would restricting miles from a driver wanting to be more productive benefit the company? And your notion about a pain of a driver getting reduced miles doesn't fly either. Otherwise @drvrtech77 would be getting about 8k miles a week if that were the case based on his statements about how he deals with dispatch if they screw him over. Personally, I think the proper response to your post should be
