I worked the Shaffer side for 1.5 years as company. I also worked Shaffer side 2.5 years as an o/o.

When I went back to company after stopping o/o, I chose to come back on the Crete side.

Honestly, I am less than impressed with the Crete side so far. Loads are shorter (this I expected.) I am seeing a lot more live loads than expected, close to 30% I would guess. The trailer pool is just as dysfunctional as the Shaffer trailer pool ever was. About 1 in 4 drop deliveries has led to me wandering lots of extra miles looking for empty trailers because there are no empties where I drop at.

The only reason I am not already back pulling Shaffer is because I specifically requested short loads that would not take me too far from terminals where I could take the truck if it crapped out again.

I think the full software updates of all systems that DeLand did for me has fixed all the electronic tardtasticness except the Opti-idle failures, which are either happening due to piss-poor software/cooling system engineering on Freightliner's part, or really poor configuration choices on Crete's part.

I spoke to Mo in KC last week, and after I explained how the system cannot ever work properly in very hot weather due to combining functions of thermostat and output air temp controls, he's invited me to come poke at the system with him next week. Since then I have tested and documented a couple other engineering/configuration Charlie Foxtrots with the Opti-Idle sleeper cab air conditioning systems.

TLDR. Stay on the Shaffer side. The Crete side is just as bad right now. Hopefully Mo and I can document enough reasons why the current opti-idle system is broken on a fundamental level to get Crete to change settings, or demand Freightliner add more software settings in order to actually deliver what Crete bought from them (working sleeper A/C systems.)

The live load situation has struck Shaffer to, just a product of having more freight than trailers I guess. I spent 16 days under the same crappy 838### trailer last month. I finally dropped it in Russellville and picked up another 838### trailer...which I live loaded and dropped last night. Now I have a nice air ride...that I take from San Antonio to Austin to drop for a supposed preloaded trailer. Of all the times I wouldn't mind a live load because I have a nice trailer, I drop it and will probably get another crappy trailer that I'll hang on to for a while again. That next load I trade this trailer for is a live unload in WI, at the same customer I live loaded a couple weeks back that headed to Phoenix.

The shorter runs at Crete is why I chose Shaffer this time. Reefer freight is generally a longer length of haul per load.

They have a lot of 10+ year drivers there.
I would recommend them to anyone.
If for some reason Landstar didn’t work out I’d go back to them in a heartbeat

If they were still Moore, I would still be there. Once Wylie took them over, they went into the toilet fast. Wylie might have a lot of long term flatbedders, but their glass division is run by idiots who think they know all there is about it, but are far from experts like Moore's leadership was.

Moore was bankrupt, which is why Wylie took over their operations.
Hard to be an expert at trucking if you constantly run to Daeske to be bailed out.

They weren't good with their money, I'll admit, but they forgot more about hauling glass than Wylie management will ever know. And, they treated their drivers with respect...something Wylie will never do. The 1st 2 months after the Wylie name went on the side of the truck, and members of girlscout troup 701 started pulling Moore's freight on Moore's trailers(what we called the Wylie drivers of Wylie's glass division)the glass division had over 60 claims...yes, 60. As in more than 1 claim per day...because they had a lot of Moore drivers walk and they conned regular flatbedders into coming over, without adequate retraining to haul glass. Hell, one of their troup members was so lazy, he refused to pull a manual tarp...he would only pull conestogas. He pulled a Moore doubledrop from Spring Hill to Owatonna MN without securing the tarp. By the time he got to the delivery, the tarp and the load were trashed. Another one of their troup members had the stones to get pissed because the consignee refused to let him in the building wearing shorts, open toed shoes and a sleeveless shirt.

Takeovers suck for the employees, I know it from both perspectives, however, you may have taken this one a little personally.
I worked for them to gain experience to start a business in trucking.
They have never lied to me, always treated me respectfully, never had to sit and wait wondering what or if my next laid was, and I was always at home on time.
Also, I have permission from the VP to park at their terminals and use their facilities any time I am near one of their terminals.
I don’t know many trucking comps Sue’s that would allow a Landstar truck to sit at their terminal for a reset, and have the VP come out to personally say hi when I’m in town.
As I said before, I would recommend any driver that wants to learn or have a career drive for EW Wylie.

I just go by how the glass division drivers were treated...and how the Moore drivers were treated like the red headed step child. They treated us like ignorant country hicks. And Phil, the glass Op's manager was the most arrogant prick known to man. The only person that spoke to us with any normal tone was the HR VP (Kay), but even she had a condescending tone a lot of the times. It was a Fargo thing...when I worked at Magnum, a lot if them had the same high and mighty attitude, like Fargo was so special. But the overbearing micromanagement, the mis-trust, the overall way they looked down their noses at the peasant (driving) class. Hell, we weren't even allowed to enter the new High Command building that the driver's blood, sweat and tears paid for.

I am at a total loss with this red triangle issue on this POS Peoplenet since the latest update. Last night when I went to sleep, no red triangle, when I got up this morning and powered it up to download yesterday's certified log, (that I certify online every morning) bammmm, it's back. And the opti-idle stayed on continuous mode well into the dark of the evening, but at 1 am I woke up to 85°, and then again at 430 am it was 83°. $100k a year would be underpaid to put up with this bull####.

Have you tried hitting it with a hammer to fix the issue?
