And that's why this country's legal system is FUBAR. A company shouldn't have to be responsible for a grown adult like that. Any married couple who communicates on a regular routine basis should know something is amiss after a day or two. It shouldn't be up to the company. Other than when our schedules misalign, if my wife doesn't hear from me after 1 day, she messages me...if she didn't get a reply, then she'd contact Deland to see if they know anything (or call Lincoln if it's on the weekend) so they could then Peoplenet message me and eventually call the local LEO's to do a door knock. She doesn't need them to locate me because we use the 360 app so we know where the other is, and how long they've been there.

    A decade ago there wasn't a 360 app.

And going off of the post here, the wife tried to get the company to do something but didn't.

If you stopped for your 30 minute break and the worst happened - could your wife find you without tracking your cell phone and without your company's assistance?

dwells40 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this.

We’ve had three drivers pass away on the road in the decade I’ve been here. Glad to say that the owner footed the bill to have the driver returned home.

Two were unfortunate accidents one was natural. Old man Tom, older than Moses and the nicest guy, talked about retiring for the 8 years our time overlapped here at this company. It was always “next year! That’s it, I’m done with this nonsense!” He finally passed away on a Sunday night while parked at the Route 66 Casino outside of Albuquerque. Wish he had gone fishing instead of driving to the end but to each their own.

probably not, but that's why we have this technology, and why the company's welfare message is so unnecessary now. They should at least give us the option of opting out of it. What happens if I decide to do a 34 and stay at a hotel near a truckstop and not check my app every few hours to see if they message me and then I come back to a truck that the cops had to break into because nobody answered their knocks and they had to check to see if I was dead.

    Bumper Thanks this.

They'd call you first. Wasn't feeling too well one time, told my A/M just wanted to shut down after delivery. Second morning got a phone call from terminal making sure I was ok. Can't remember if it was before or after they started doing the wellness check, was a few years ago. You may have your wife, I talk to my parents almost every day, but I'm sure there's a fair number of drivers that don't have anyone, at least anyone that gives a hoot, that they talk to regularly. Then add there's still places that don't have great, if any, cell reception. If nothing else, to be cynical, crete doesn't want a body rotting in the truck for days/weeks or a load going bad

Heres the deal. It is what it is. There is no harm in your company checking in on you. So minor in the scope of life occurrences. Just respond to the message and be happy you are alive and seeing the sun come up with its offer of a new day.

That is why they need an "opt out" option. For those of us out here that don't need it, we should be able to turn it off.

It's just part of the overall nanny system in place here that wants to hold your hand and look over your shoulder to make sure you are doing your job their way because the driver is not able to think and decide for themselves. The overwhelming majority of us out here at Creaffer don't need a remote tele-trainer and don't need to hold anyone's hand in management. Just let us think and do for ourselves. Tell us where and when to pick up and deliver, and any special policies or needs that the customer has. I can even accept their fuel solution system, given the fuel price situation right now. Other than that, most of us don't need anyone on the other side of the Peoplenet "reminding" us how to do our job, especially since most of them couldn't do our job if their lives depended on it.

They want time to get the body out before the smell sets in.
