If it were only once, no big deal. But how likely, in today's traffic world, will it only happen once in a while? More like dozens of times per hour. Especially in the eastern half of the country. (Or the extreme west coast states). I bet if you ask the average Prime driver how often they get cut off, I bet it's no different than the average left lane super trucker.

My philosophy is…
Make it work, and don’t kill anyone!hotrod1653, Friend, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this. -
My company adjusted our collision radar to not make a sound beyond a 1.5 second following distance. 3 seconds was not practical in the real world and the company acknowledged that and made adjustments.
The cruise follows at 3 seconds but you can override it with the pedal to the 1.5 second mark without being audibly chastised. That prevents cars and trucks from cutting you off last minute to hit their exit. Most just fall in behind you and brake check someone else.Last edited: Mar 24, 2025
MACK E-6, Lonesome and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
@supersnackbar is right about the freightliners. At fcc ours beep at the 2.4 sec, beep at 2 secs also. But the worst part is when your backing out of it to give back the room someone took from you, it beeps again at those intervals (Crete may be different) as the vehicle in front “crosses” back through them. It’s like, “thanks for the reminder!”

Loaded at Hostess in Edgerton KS this morning. They open at 6, had a live load appointment for 7. I got there at 6:10, was loaded and rolling by 7:15. My fuel routing takes me thru Lincoln and across 80 into Cali. I thought about changing things around and running across one of my old SPD regular routes and run US54 down to Tucumcari and then from there take 40-15-58-99. But I am waaaaay short on my 70, so I am having to do a restart then run vampire. So, I came up to Lincoln and will do a 34 here. The other route was shorter, but had a lot of running in Cali, and that would add more time than taking the longer route across 80. Besides, running vampire keeps me out of traffic and less traffic means my truck doesn't drive me more nuts than I already am. Plus, my trailer was due for a T-1, so while I am doing a 34, it'll get done. This is a dry load of Hostess goodies, so they won't have to worry about the reefer running while they grease it. I believe bringing in a trailer for service earns me a good safety point, at least it did when I had my trailer work done at Columbus a while back...if it does, that means I am already at -5 on my points and I haven't even been back a month.
