I am looking at the WIOA to fund training, and you should call around to a few schools. I found some nearby, used Yelp to look at their reviews, and called the top 3. I explained I was going to seek WIOA funding to pay for it, and one on the list said they would accept the funding, and the amount given to them would cover any costs, as well as 3 DMV behind the wheel tests if needed, but they have only had 1 student this year need a second test, they will not let you test until they are confident you can pass it. I asked about the possibility WIOA would only fund part of the listed tuition, and the owner said he would accept it as payment in full.
I am going to guess most of the schools would rather see every seat filled for a class than start one down a few students. Compare it to an airline, once the plane takes off with an empty seat, that means zero revenue from that seat, if they can sell it at a substantial discount, a few bucks is better than nothing, once the plane leaves, you can't fill it.

i dunno, I'd prolly try Indy's C-1 Truck Driver Training. How does 6 weeks equate to 45-60 hrs? Well one on one isn't that important if that's what you're referring too. You'll get most of your exp. out with a trainer and after you go solo.

It ain't the same out in the field. Most trainers tell you to forget all that crap they taught you in Trucking School anyway, lol. I know mine did. Although, i learned quite a bit at C-1. It's the mindset you need to get right.

    Stay confident.

As someone who has 30 years experience driving a manual car and three weeks experience driving a truck, this is ABSOLUTELY true!

First step is just getting the CDL... The school will help you do that along with general knowledge... The real learning comes after the CDL and you hook up with a training company that will help you go beyond the school stuff.

So, go the cheaper route especially if you are qualified to get the grant to pay for it.

Confused about the hours too... Many companies require 120-160 hour school program... And as mentioned above, six weeks seems longer than 60 hours. Might want to verify that aspect. Hate to see you get the CDL only to be short on training hours in the school.

Sounds like you are doing it... Keep us posted!!!

Unfortunately in CT no community college offers classes for CDL-A.

Yeah, I've certainly been concerned about the 60hr that Allstate's school provides. But that is legitimately how many hours the course is. It's 65hr in 6wks from what the recruiters have told me. They said it's shorter than most programs because it is 1on1, 1 teacher is assigned to 1 student. 1.5 hours of 1on1 on the road training. That's how it was explained to me. They said they take the fluff out of the longer 160hr programs out there and you get individual attention. He said it's 20 hours class/permit prep, and 40 hours 1on1 driving w/instructor.

I honestly don't know if that's worth it or not. I don't know how much individualized driving time you get with the other schools. Allstate was very "proud" and upfront about their 1on1 time, selling it as the reason for their schooling being so short in weeks and hours.

At this time I am really leaning towards NETTS and A.B.CDL because I feel like I would want at-least 160 to 500 hours if that is the trend in average hours for this schooling sector. It's just sad that Allstate doesn't offer a program more attune to 160-500hrs because 1 of their schools is so close to where I live. I'll be spending tons of gas $$ & putting miles on the sedan & waking up at 5am to get to NETTS/ABCDL, where-as if I were to go with allstate I could roll out of bed 15 minutes before class starts. lol.
