This whole sub-thread was started when You and I seem to agree, but when somebody uses the term "burned through" that is not referring to opportunity cost it is referring to actual out of pocket costs, which is what your accountant looks at.
I don’t think you need an accountant to explain the dynamics of running a Truck. A simple calculator works just fine. I have an accountant do my taxes for Me. If I were Lazy, I could send in all my info and receipts monthly, and for $100 a month have her keep books on my business. Not necessary.Bottom line is, if the Truck doesn’t run it becomes a Liability, along with any other fixed costs associated with being self employed. Instead of making money, you’re spending money already made. The result is less money made overall. It’s easy to think” I’ll just do an extra run” to pay for ?? Reality is you’ll need an extra 2,3 maybe 4 runs to pay for it. Why? Because the percentage of gross you keep is only 25-50. % at best depending on how much your fixed and variable cost are. The variables, You’ll only know that number in retrospect.
Thank you for the info. Was going to purchase this 19 mack anthem ive been driving since new when it's 2 years old. Since im currently only making 45cpm with me having 9 years of otr experience factors in to be 900 a week max being an company driver.
Oof .45 cpm with 9 year of experience man find somewherr else heck tmc starter pay is better than that.
45 cpm is newbie driver pay. Unless there are other reasons holding you to that company, you can do a lot better.
I have just been starting out driving the last 8 months and last 6 months have been on my own in my truck. I’ve been lucky to have my father in this trucking business for more than 15 years. He has shown me how it is in this business of having to finding a load from broker company, knowing the routes, checking on your truck and trailer, tires, brakes, oil, water level, etc. I’m fortunate to have my father in this business he has 4 trucks. Him and I as drivers as well as his 2 friends that have been driving for him for over 9 years. I plan on running my dad’s business next 3-5 years. Just reading people’s opinions and how they started it’s a hard business and I applaud all truck drivers. O/O and company drivers
Hey everyone, I think it would be a good idea to put a list together of all owner operators name, phone number, and location. It would be a good way for drivers to be able to work directly with companies rather than having to pay middlemen and brokerage fees. This list will be mainly for our guys in the Southeast of the United States, but or those of you finding yourselves in Florida and Georgia especially it can be a good opportunity for steady work and one time deliveries as well. I foresee almost everything being a van and maybe a flatbed. Thank you everyone I would like to hear what you think about this idea and what we can do to make it better.
