Oh on the CDL test you just name off stuff. In practice it’s a whole different messed up world full of broken parts and frustration.

OP, if you’re referring to the road test the companies give, I’ve never been asked physically check anything. It’s usually just tell them how you go about doing a pre-trip.

Hate to say it but I no longer climb under my truck. Gravel lot at yard and piss yard at truck stops. I started out on trucks without automatic slack adjusters and had to adjust the brakes a few times a day due hills and traffic conditions but not anymore.
I do check and shine a light on everything on my pre-trip, do a walk around anytime I stop and a post trip. But nowadays that's it.
