Any hints at how I can increase my chances of a job offer to drive reefers for Roehl?
I'm a student driver starting driving school at a community college on Monday, 28 Nov. I'll graduate 23 Dec.
I have a clean background - no criminal history.
Only one ticket in the past 5 years. Speeding on my motorcycle - 85 in a 70 zone issued 26 Dec 2008. I'm told that it should "drop off" by 26 Dec this year.
No accidents ever.
I've passed the Tanker, Doubles and Triples, and Hazmat endorsement tests in addition to all of the standard CDL permit tests. Hoping the Hazmat background check will be complete by the time I graduate.
If so, I'll have a CDL with Tanker, Doubles and Triples and Hazmat endorsements at graduation.
My passport is being renewed now and I should have a current passport in hand by graduation.
Only credentials that I know of that I'll be lacking is a TWIC and FAST. TWIC should be easy after Hazmat background check is completed/reported and Hazmat endorsement granted. I'll have to travel a couple hours from my home to get a TWIC card, or I would have already applied. But I found out that the background checks are the same for both TWIC and Hazmat, so I'm waiting for the Hazmat to come back so I can same a little time/money on the TWIC.
I have submitted an application via the Roehl website and have forwarded an Affidavit of Self-employment/Unemployment, along with a copy of my DD214 (to prove veteran status) and resume.
What more can I do/provide to them to increase my chances of an offer from them?

Just apply and appear interested. It's not like you're trying to get on with a top notch company with discriminatory hiring practices.

The ones which require experience, can trust their drivers to do what they're supposed to and not have to watch over them with a Qualcomm 24/7, etc. Roehl is an entry level carrier. They do training, they accept new graduates. Like other companies of the same nature, they're going to have much broader hiring practices. If you have a CDL, a decent driving record previously, and a clean criminal background, there really isn't much more you need. Maybe a couple follow-on calls to emphasize your interest in the company, but if they're hiring (which seems likely), you're pretty much good to go as is.

That's why I'm looking at companies like Roehl.
Because I need one that "does training" and "accepts new graduates" and I'm trying to find the best among those.
If you know of a better company that "does training" and "accepts new graduates", I really appreciate you sharing those with me so that I can apply there as well. -
My point was to place emphasis that an entry level carrier is going to hire from a broader base than a company with experience requirements. Whether Roehl is the best fit for you starting off or not, I'm not in a position to say. I've known people who've had positive and negative experiences with them, and it's the same story with the lot of them. We all start off somewhere. I have no reason to believe you would be worse off with Roehl than with any other company. Roehl is a pretty diverse company, and, if you decide you don't like the reefers so much, there's opportunities to go to dry van or flatbed. Maybe there'd be an advantage to a company which ran reefers exclusively, maybe there'd be disadvantages to them. Personally, when I think of companies for whom the sight of one of their trucks on the road near me makes me fear for my well-being, Roehl isn't one of the companies which comes to mind. Not the most scientific method, I know.
If you feel that Roehl is where you want to go, I can't think of any reason to tell you otherwise. I hope it works out, I hope you find yourself well placated there, and I hope you will become successful in this industry. In that, I am sincere with my words.
I would encourage you to do as much research as you can (although I believe you already have), and make your decision based on what you feel is the right fit for you (which, once more, I believe you've done). The Gryphon Thanks this. -

I have a list of companies that I think are pretty good, based on the research that I've done so far, but I'm not so arrogant as to believe that I haven't missed some, or might have some listed that shouldn't be as I haven't been in the industry and thus have no first hand knowledge about them. But, right now I have Roehl at the top of that list.
All I have is what I've been able to find out by reading here and on other sites.
So, I welcome and genuinely appreciate input like yours.
I just want to go to a company that will train me properly and has a decent reputation in the industry so as to get my new career started on the right foot. -
you only need 1 thread. Starting 3 threads identical to one another is just makeing for work for the mods...
