My 730 routes nb i29 from wb i70 by default even though my company routing is 435 I have to via the flying j to get it to route 435
-
Google does it right. Going I-29 is 2.7 mi shorter but 9min slower, going 435 is longer but faster cause u stay away from the city so the obvious Practical route should be 435. Once again RM looses.
I'm at the point now where I have to double check all my routes now as I don't trust my unit to get it right the first time. I have said it before, we don't need shortest or fastests routing just PRACTICAL.Last edited: Mar 28, 2015

It's ~3 minutes faster and costs ~$3 less at 2am in a truck cruising at 55mph...
What I really want is more user-inputs to adjust the routing. Things like:
Governed/maximum speed: so it doesn't give additional time weight to roads faster than you drive
Maintenance per mile baseline: So it knows how much that 20 mile detour costs
Avergage mpg
Cost per hour baseline
Then it ought to look up on its own:
National average fuel price
Road tax per mile (quarterly IFTA and weight-distance rates when you dock)
Terrain severity
Average traffic density
Then maybe add $0.25 per stoplight and $1 per stopsign, all to come up with the lowest cost routing for owner operators.Last edited: Mar 28, 2015

What you need is an EOBR unit as it will prob do most of what your looking for. Ur not gonna get those features on a GPS unit at this price. I believe that the cost factors they assign to all the roads are not for Practical routing and should be tweaked. I personally don't care if I travel an extra 2-5 miles to go around a city instead of going right through it as it just makes for a more comfortable ride.tow614 Thanks this.

Don't know about most drivers but the cost of what you are asking would be way above my price range.jorceshaman, tow614 and Voyager XII Rider Thank this.

Having the option to route around large cities would actually be nice, like if you know traffic will be ugly around rush hour, tell it to avoid and route you around, kind of like how it will (I think) give you the option of a new route due to traffic. Just let you default it.

hmm, you know, sometimes one must ignore a GPS and use their own mind,
black_dog106, roshea and SilverShadow Thank this. -
True. But the point being when you spend 400 to 600 bucks on an electronic device you expect it to be reliable and accurate and any shortfalls should be reported and that is what this thread is for.Voyager XII Rider and double yellow Thank this.
