Yeah, it’s beyond dumb. I’m 8 years into the industry and once I refinance my house I’m outta here.
no overtime,no lunchbreak required legally if you’re local. Forgive the analogy, but the trucking industry is modern day slave labour.

Varies by company. Reddaway/Holland pay OT after 8. That recently changed based on bid where some it's still after 8, but most of our bids don't pay OT until after 45 hours. ODFL pays OT after 60. SEFL doesn't pay OT at all but has a higher starting wage.

South eastern pays overtime in Florida. I’ve seen the paystubs. I’m not one for government intervention I’m a rural American, but if a trucking company’s pays OT it’s from the kindness of there heart or to avoid unions.
being in the south there’s no incentive for trucking employers to pay time and a half, or give lunch breaks. If employees unionize they’ll just shut the terminal down, and there’s no federal or state laws protecting workers -
I've talked to several drivers from SEFL in Columbia and they said it's all straight pay. That may not be true for other areas. The drivers I've talked to also claimed that their company is family owned and they are 100% proactively anti-union.
What sucks is when Yellow tanks, they are probably the last company that will pick me up because I would be prior union. -
SEFL pays OT after 45 hours now. That started back in April. They like everyone was having trouble getting drivers so they finally had to get with the times

I still think that's BS. Should be after 40 but got some reason trucking gets to make up ish as they go.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

I can deal with the lunchbreak thing. As far as I’m concerned the sooner I get done the sooner I can go home. I can even tolerate the no O/T.
What’s bull-#### is the blatant politics, double standards, and favoritism around so many of these terminals.Magoo1968, bzinger, road_runner and 2 others Thank this. -
That's brand new to me. They already pay some of the higher wages in the area. Didn't realize they are also hurting for drivers.

Our Houston branch called me today to say that Knight emailed a bill of lading over for them yesterday for YRC as carrier and this morning at 7 am a Knight truck showed up for the load. The mystery continues.

The lunch only bothers me because my employers like to auto deduct it from the clock
MACK E-6 Thanks this.
