I don't regularly pull a sliding tandem either. But i used to, and still do on occasion. One thing is certain tho, my brakes are always in adjustment. Every other weekend i grease both my truck and my trailer and snug the brakes up while under there. The only time that gets skipped is if i didn't work two weeks straight. Which is rather often actually, but then it gets greased after the next duty cycle.
Taking the plunge. My journey as an O/O.

Megas don't maintain their trailers that well. Crete lubes their rails when they lock up, and sometimes a trailer will sit at a dedicated customer several weeks being used as temp storage.
-
That’s how it is with most places. They don’t have time for the little stuff.

That's a nifty tool.
I wonder just how accurate those numbers really are? I plugged in what would be an average of 130,000 miles per year, with a $600 a week truck payment, 65k dollar truck value, 7.2 mpg average at $2.75 a gallon, $0.15 a mile maintenance and health, dental & vision insurance for a husband and wife.
That weekly grand total showed $1,348 a week NET, before personal & business profit taxes.
By the time you knock off an additional 10% for business matching S.S. and medicare, that would bring the $1,348 a week down to around $1,213 a week gross, or roughly $63,000 a year which is like $0.48 a mile.Last edited: Apr 7, 2019
DieselDrivinDaddy, Farmerbob1, Tug Toy and 3 others Thank this. -
That's insanely low. I can make that as a company driverTug Toy Thanks this.

I looked at it too and thought what a joke.

In case anyone doubts the numbers, go to Shaffer Trucking and try it yourself
Tug Toy Thanks this. -
I also only pay 424 per week for the truck, and health insurance is only required for me. Considering those two facts, my net income, using the tool, is significantly more than a company driver's income.
Until I pay off the truck...
However I likely will be leaving Crete before I get the truck entirely paid off, getting it refinanced into a personal loan to reduce complexity.
*shrug* I should be getting my quarterly estimate from the accountant in the next couple days. -
You should be making more.At the rate im going now with bouns ill be at around 70k being company for crete

In my area high 70s is the best i could get as a local company driver. Problem is that would be a job. I don't want a job. I'll keep my old truck and net mid 60s as a part timer. Work a week or two then take a month off. Life is too short to spend it working.Opendeckin, fordconvert, stwik and 5 others Thank this.
