Bob, you would not regret getting your own authority.
You’re not stupid, and it’s definitely not as complicated as you may believe. You will run fewer miles while earning higher revenue. You could run the same miles you are running now, and you wouldn’t be in the dire straits that you are in right now...even though you don’t realize it yet.

Question for any mega carrier operators. what percentage of drivers leased O/O or otherwise have been there for 30 plus yrs? How many for 10 yrs?

Two of my main concerns is that I do not know basic lanes, seasons, freight patterns, etc., and do not have a real understanding about how to deal with OSD without having someone else handling it for me.

Also, as a solo owner op, the availability of drop and hook loads will approach zero except in strange circumstances. This adds to my risks of cargo claims.

None of these things are dealbreakers all by themselves, but looking at all the potential problems and learning curves as a simultaneous learning project is a bit daunting.

Ok. If craftsman is not easily available then buy kobalt. Or any of the other cheap decent quality brands. The point is you don't need to be spending big bucks at the snap on truck if you are only using them occasionally

Craftsman is available at any Lowe’s as largecar359 said.
They have a 224pc set on sale for $149 that would do most of the common repairs needed.

Ace hardware too. Harbor freight tools are good enough. Their ratchets are as good as Craftsnsn, these days.My 1” Chinese ratchet is getting sticky, after 20 yrs. And only about 20 uses. Lol. Served its purpose.

Im not so sure thats accurate . He better have some contract freight and avg 2.50mi. Im leased to a carrier that allows me to book my own loads or pull their loads. I work both sides of the fence to position myself in a lane i want. To many times you want a Chicago lane their isnt any because its a lane everybody wants and the brokers give to prefered carriers before DAT loadboards gets it. Plus the option of drop hook to stay moving especially on weekend is huge
