Amen to that. Safeway is one of the reasons we got rid of our reefers. We had a good paying haul bringing frozen seafood down from the PNW coast.
Safeway continually held us up at Tracy to where we couldn't make our back-haul loading appointments.
We had to decide whether to wait around for another lesser paying back-haul or to just bounce home empty. Neither one was profitable.
We also had loads rejected at Tracy because of damaged packaging that wasn't even visible to the eye. Another grocery chain took the rejected loads and was glad to have them.

If it means getting a $4,000 load or missing a $4,000 load, you pay the bribe and get busy making money.

Yeah, I know. The people taking the bribe money know it too.
We went through that when we were doing dry van and reefer work. No more.
When it became an expected expense we decided that we didn't want anything to do with it.
A lot of very reputable and well known shippers and recievers play the "under the table" game and if you want in or out of a place it helps to know who likes a bottle of whiskey or a twenty dollar bill or a gift card to Cabellas.
We didn't see that everywhere but we saw enough of it that when it came time to make a decision we decided to get out of the reefer business. We were at a point where we had to "get big or get out" and we got out.
We went back to the kinds of hauling we know best and we don't have to bribe clerks and forklift drivers

I’ve been there once and never again. By the time I got out of the place I wanted to find whoever it was in charge of the place and strangle them. 8 hours just for a couple of pallets. And the only restroom was a nightmare of filth which also had a small river of urine & feces running out into the warehouse floor. After seeing that I vowed never to shop at a Safeway or Albertsons again.

Can't really say i've had a bad experience with a shipper or a receiver the only one time was some extremely rude dude at Malt O meal SLC UT dispatcher, and some warehouse in the OK pan handle near the NM border made me wait till my reefer got down to - 10 f before i could leave took over 4 hours waiting cause my reefer was really designed for chilling not freezing. CH Robinson would get my vote of worst broker terrible service and no understanding of truck driver delivery issues.

Somehow, somewhere, some way, various individuals, management and labor alike, need to be held accountable for holding up truck drivers for these super long periods of time.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
