Is it easier to sleep with the apu running or the engine running?

I don’t believe you’re going to find an answer to this other than it’s personal you’re gonna have to figure out what is comfortable for you

never had an APU, so I idled all the time, sometimes didn't shut it off except to fuel for the whole week.

sleep with a fan on for background noise now.

can sleep with the engine running no problem... The apu makes a different noise and it is just kind of irritating. Hard to sleep. Especially if it cycles on and off. Regardless i could sleep thru a tornado. A truck driver never knows when his next sleep is going to be. Have to take advantage of it when u can.

I would sleep easier with an APU knowing that it is saving fuel and $$. Realize that you are asking about noise. Also easier on the engine. Why run a 450-600hp engine just for heat or A/C when one could run the little engine on the APU? ThermoKing has a cost analysis on their website detailing savings based on idling time and fuel cost.

It varies per truck and driver. Some APUs are screamers. Some drivers wake up if a leaf falls in a forest.

Never had an apu. In the warm months my truck started up on Sunday night and shut down Friday morning. Once you adapt to the idle noise and vibration it's hard to sleep without it
