I was wondering if I buy a bobtail/truck in another state how do I go about transporting it to my home state.
What kind of registrations, etc will I need or can I get a temp permit to drive on interstate?
    Thanks

I think it's a case of insuring it for bobtail/unladen, removing all DOT numbers from it, then getting a temp tag and I think you're good to go.

Have a search on here, this one's been answered before.

Some states are less than willing to issue a temp tag... call ahead. Well ahead.

I recently drove my new to me truck home from Missouri to Texas with my insurance card and the temp tag from the dealer. I didn't have any issues by I didn't get stopped either. I rolled through the scales at Joplin and got a green light. I don't know for sure if this was 100% legal as I don't see any type of exemptions listed for trip or fuel permits but it is what I did.

I know that most people won't do this, but one option is to hire it moved. There are plenty of "drive away" companies that will pick it up and deliver it to your doorstep. I used one se eral years ago to have a truck moved from DFW to northern AR. Cost me a out $1/mile. I was working at the time, so I would have had to take off work, buy insurance, permit, etc, get myself to DFW and then buy the fuel and drive the truck back. The drive away cost me around $500 and I considered it a wash.

Old Iron Transport or something like that is who I used. Truck dealers will likely have someone that they can refer you to.

After reading what @dannythetrucker went through driving his glider home, I would probably run a logbook in addition to tags and insurance

Oh yeah a log book is a given as is a valid CDL and med card. I was just refering to the truck paperwork needed.
