So, here I am, having to wander all over the place in Eastern PA and Southern NY finding an empty trailer and getting it washed out.

I finally find an empty, and get my next load. Notes indicate that a washout must occur, and a receipt for washout must be provided.

There is no washout anywhere within 50+ miles of where I got the empty. At least nothing open at 10PM.

So I poke around and find the nearest 24 hour washout.

Binghamton, NY. 60 miles away from my empty, 80 miles from my shipper.

I make the drive, and, amazingly there is only one truck ahead of me.

That truck pulls into the only bay, and the one employee on duty starts doing a full tractor and trailer wash on the truck ahead of me.

I am now burning my 14 hour clock due to searching three different yards at two different customers.

Today has certainly gone to hell. Pennsylvania strikes again.

Get away from the mega carrier ASAP. Your life and job will get so much easier.

Why would you have me leave an 80k+ per year job that I enjoy?

Sure, there are annoying days, and I'm not afraid to ##### about them, but in the last month I have had only one live load and am averaging 3500+ miles per week.

That's another reason I just don't miss messing with a refer.

Part two of the story is driving across Dallas, finding one, it's thrashed, driving back across through traffic, to find the line at Blue Beacon out to the street, then finally driving back across again 5 hours later with a clean refer.

Sweep it out . Buy a receipt book . Tell them you found a local to do it with a mobile power washer . Write in a PO Box as the address and provide your wife’s number ., ‘ Triple A Truck Wash Answering Service. Oh, sorry , Bob left this morning on a long overdue vacation , can I take a message ?’

Who says you can’t have both. I’m doing that too but I don’t deal with messed up shipper accounts and demands and the BS of trashed trailers left by prior uncaring drivers, and less-than-great spec’d trucks, and the politics found in every huge carrier. But we all have to abuse ourselves in the beginning, I suppose. I did my time at a mega but I’m glad it’s behind me.

11 picks in three days with no sleep because you’re waiting on a phone call for a door that you have to engage in hand to hand combat with other drivers who are in your way to get backed into , after standing in line for two hours to check in at every shipper , sleeping on the streets of the Salinas valley because the truck stops are full , waiting 11 hours for a pallet of lettuce, then speeding for three days to make it 2500 miles for a 4 am delivery to a state that tickets you for being unable to find parking for your delivery isn’t your idea of living the dream buddy ?
